Trouble TTC

Newbie Intro

Hello Everyone,
So, I have been putting this off for awhile now - mostly because I am shy, even on the internets - but the time has come to stop being a lurker. Infertility sucks, and its really just too hard to go through it alone. That is not to say that my husband isn't fantastic and right there with me, but sometimes you just need some female support. You seem like such a great group of ladies, and I hope you don't mind it if I join your ranks. I also, like wine, alot :)

A little bit about our situation: we have been TTC since May 2013. We thought it was going to be a piece of cake, and actually put off trying by a few months so that we wouldn't have to change our vacation plans 9 months down the line - yeah right. Well a year and some change later and we are still trying. This past May we learned that DH has azoospermia, so after taking a few months off we decided to pursue IUI with donor sperm. Our first round was in September, and obviously didn't work. I had another ultrasound today and IUI #2 is scheduled for this Friday. I had 2 follicles at 13 and 17 mm, which is better than last time, but do they seem puny to anyone else?

Thanks!

Re: Newbie Intro

  • Hi! I just wanted to say that I'm doing an iui this week also so I guess we are cycle buddies, or whatever they call them haha. Good luck! My largest follicle was 17 at my ultrasound as well. My nurse said they expect it to grow by the time I ovulate. Hope that makes you feel a little better!
  • Welcome.  I am new as well and my IUI is penciled in for Sat.  I understand needing female support, and most importantly support from women that actually understand what each other is going through.  GL in your upcoming IUI

  • Welcome! Best of luck on this IUI! I'm glad you decided to intro. The 3T community is amazing and there really is nothing like female support when it comes to IF. Husbands/partners/wives can be great, but there is nobody else who can truly understand what you're going through unless they've experienced something similar.

  • @mshandlebar‌, I'm a lurker here too and have been trying to find where to fit in and have settled on this board. My DH and I are in the same boat, Azoospermia for him, no ovulation for me, according to the dr. Mine should be easily remedied. I totally get the needing support from ladies even though my DH is awesome. Fingers crossed for your IUI! We find out the end of this month when we can start pursuing our own.
    Me: 24 | DH: 25
    Married: May 2013
    TTC: Since Sept. 2013
Me: unusually short cycles, anovulation, possible tubal issue on right side
DH: Azoospermia, likely not blockage, just doesn't produce any
  • Welcome! Sorry you're here...but glad to have you! :)

Did your follies measure 13 and 17 the day of IUI? If so, that is small...only the 17 might be mature, but sizes in the 20s are better. If they measured 13 and 17 at monitoring before a trigger or before you waited a few days for a positive OPK, then the 17 should grow to a mature size. It's almost certain the 13 would not catch up because they are 4mm apart so the larger one will take over. But it sounds like you had a good response to Clomid, one nice mature follie works great for getting knocked up!! :)

  • I can't tell you how much just saying hi has helped already. I feel more hopeful than I have in awhile. I wish I had done this earlier!

@Chartm05, when did you find out about the azoospermia? It was a complete shock when we found out (all that money wasted on birth control over the years! :) It took us a few months to move on. I hope you find out soon about starting IUI.

@BunnyBerry, they were that size on at monitoring before the trigger. I triggered last night for an IUI on Friday morning. Its frustrating because my dr. said they were both great (which I knew wasn't really true for the small one). I feel like she sugar coats it or keeps me in the dark a bit.

    @Molly84, good luck today!

  • @mshandlebar, we found out 8/29 of this year.  It felt like a punch in the gut to me but DH is seems like he's doing just fine for the most part.  I was on BCPs for less than a year, but looking back it still seems silly, especially the few times that I forgot for a few nights so we used an alternate method, haha.  We have our follow up 10/31 and we'll see what happens at that.  I think the hardest part has been knowing we won't have a bio child that looks like him.

  • @Chartm05, I hear ya. DH went through a rough time at first. He blamed himself thinking there was something in his crazy youth that had caused it. Now he jokes about how his genes aren't that hot anyways, and we try to focus on the whole nurture over nature thing.
