Trouble TTC

Letrozole ladies, come in...

I'm starting my first dose tomorrow, and I always get nervous about new medications. I did some googling and it doesn't seem like people react too badly to it, but what can I expect? Did you have side effects?

As a thank you for your time, I offer a shirtless Charlie Hunnam. You're welcome.

  • Thanks so much for sharing, ladies. @DaydreamSam I'm sorry that you went through the depression, but I'm glad that it didn't last long. If I feel moody I'm sure it will help to remind myself that it's only temporary.

@je333206 I've already been moody and mean over IF, so if I can blame it on the meds for a few days I will jump all over that.

  • I had hot flashes a few time and a little dizziness, but nothing horrible.  I had no side effects with clomid.
  • Between the letrozole and metformin I get crazy cravings for food :/ other then that in good. Best of luck and I love your pic
  • I was very tired & had hot flashes. I started taking my meds in the evening & it helped a ton as I was asleep for most of the side effects.

  • Hey there! Just did my first round last Mon-Fri. The first day I had hot flashes and headaches. After that the physical side effects were minimal, mostly just night sweats.

However, like @daydreamsam, I had waves of feeling emotionally upset and weepy. I tried to keep reminding myself "these feelings aren't real, it's just chemicals." If I let myself cry it out for 15 minutes or so, the feelings usually passed.

Best of luck - hopefully you are like some of these lucky ladies who had zero symptoms!
  • Thanks so much everyone! Sounds like I can expect to be a little uncomfortable and emotional perhaps, but nothing crazy (if I turn green, or grow an extra ear or something I'll definitely be reporting back to you all).

Also, based on your advice I'll try starting it at night and see how that goes! Thanks again for taking the time to respond

  • After doing Clomid for 5 months, Letrozole seemed so much nicer. I only had hot flashes and a few headaches here and there. So much easier than the crazy lady I became on Clomid with horrible bloating and being uncomfortable all month.

Good Luck with your first round!

  • Thanks @cwuredhot‌ , @hrushka‌ , and @PeanutRN‌ ! I am starting at 5 mg... Not sure why the Dr decided on that, he never really discussed dosage with me. I already ovulate regularly on my own, so I'm surprised he wouldn't start with the lowest dose, but I also have a potentially blocked tube so maybe he wants to try to get follicles on the good side.

Thanks again, I feel better hearing all of your feedback :).

  • I had really bad drowsiness, dizziness and headache. Stopped when I started taking them right at bedtime. Other than that I got terrible hot flashes. Nothing I haven't lived to tell about ;-)
  • Last cycle (5mg) I had major headaches. I could hardly deal. This cycle (7.5) I had only a minor headache on 2nd day of meds. Other than that notta it was FABULOUS! After 3 rounds of the clomid crazies it was such a reliefe I had no idea Femara wa!s so much better

  • I had only a few side effects but they also did their job in producing a mature and good looking follicle every time! My joints became painful and tight, I was super moody and headaches all day. Not bad enough to never take them again just a rough few days.

  • I just finished my first round of 5mg this past tuesday.  The first couple days on it I was unreasonably full of rage and dizzy/nauseous.  There could be other variables at play but I have no other explanation for why I was so hormonal.  My poor husband... luckily he's a good sport : )

I had extremely heavy bleeding with clots for a couple days.  I usually have very light periods.  I'm wondering if that is related to the femara as well. My first three days of my period were normal and then once I started it, super heavy.  Anyone else have this happen?

I go in for my ultrasound tomorrow... hoping everything looks good!  At my baseline scan I was told that my ovaries "don't look like PCOS ovaries" this cycle so I'm hoping we have a good shot.

  • @BandM14 love me some jax teller :)

I had less side effects on letrozole than I had on clomid, but I also had less of a response I guess you could say.  I would only produce 1-2 mature follicles compared to the 2-4 I was producing on Clomid.  Overall, I liked it a lot better.

I imagined symptoms but nothing was strong enough to make me believe it was anything other than my imagination. It certainly wasn't a big deal. I hope you don't have strong symptoms too -- although sometimes it's nice to have strong symptoms because it feels like you're doing SOMETHING, right? :)

@mbrookeRN Just wanted to let you know that I've also had strange bleeding on the Femara... usually my period is over in 4 days, I'm on CD 6 and still going. I'm thinking it has to be the medication, because it's very unusual for me. Hope your ultrasound went well!
