GD numbers

Got my results back from my first 1 hour glucose test (took at 7 weeks because of family history, and my weight) and got back a 154  (normal range is under 140). I got my results via email from the lab, so I haven't heard from or spoke to my doctor yet about it.

What is the next step? Wait for my dr to call me?

Re: GD numbers

  • Yep, wait for your doctor to call.  Your doc will most likely have you do a secondary glucose test where you will get tested every hour for a total of 3 hours.  If the results come back high, your doctor will call you to set up an educational class about gestational diabetes.

  • I have never heard my numbers when tested but I was just recently diagnosed with GD ( I am now 24 wks). This is my 2nd time having it. I went and took the 3hr. You have to fast (usually after midnight) and then get blood drawn immediately when you get there. Then drink the nasty drink and get tested every hr for 3 hrs.
There was talk about me having to be on insulin this time but I had to prove them wrong by starting a controlled carb/sugar diet. I have actually lost a couple pounds and my numbers are great. I was actually down graded yesterday from High Risk GD to Moderate Risk GD bc my numbers have been so good.

  • I just failed the three hour this week. I meet with the diabetic educator on Monday. Until then, I have to prick my finger four times a day and keep track of results. Joy.

Welcome to diabetes management (22 year vet of type 1 here)!  The finger pokes won't stop so long as you have GD but you do get used to it (to a point).  As much as they suck it's really important to keep up the monitoring.

  • One week into GD finger pricks my mantra when I am about to press the button "it's for the baby, it's for the baby" be strong ladies :)
  • The finger pricks are not bad as I remembered from last go around 7 yrs ago. But each time right before the prick I feel like Buddy on ELF when he is testing Jack in the Boxes. lol
