Non-clicky dinner poll

I was going to make this clicky, but it got too complicated.

Here's what I'm interested in knowing: when the person who does the cooking at your house isn't home at dinner time, does that person still make dinner for the other members of the family?

In my situation, I work two evenings a week. I do the cooking. I leave some kind of dinner for DH. I have my reasons, and I take some slack from others when I mention that I leave him dinner to heat up.

How does it work at your house?

Re: Non-clicky dinner poll

  • Most week nights, H gets home before me and starts/cooks dinner. He makes enough for me or will suffer my wrath lol.  It's nice to walk in the door and have dinner pretty much ready to go since we're all starving by 5:30p.

On Wednesdays, H works late and I make dinner but generally will make H a plate for the fridge. If there's not enough or we grab take out or something, H can manage on his own.

Sort of related - for about 4 years he worked nights, and was never up in the mornings with me/LO1 so we got into a routine where I'd make me/LO breakfast. I still forget to make enough for H most mornings unless he reminds me to make him food. :\"> Old habits die hard apparently.

  • If you're home first then you make dinner, regardless of what else is happening...sadly this means me for the foreseeable future as I'm still at home and will be working from home when I go back in December :(
  • I do all cooking, unless there's some crisis where I ask DH to make pasta (his only real cooking skill). I actually don't like for DH to cook. He doesn't clean up the right way, he uses the wrong kind of utensil for my fancy schmancy cookware, and he actually probably wouldn't know what to cook for himself.

On the nights where we don't eat dinner together, I still need to eat, so I cook something that can easily be reheated for either one of us. It's no more hassle to cook his dinner when I'm already making my dinner! If I'm going somewhere where dinner is provided (like my mtg last night), he either eats leftovers or some kind of frozen convenience meal. Sometimes I leave directions for something he has to cook himself -- like frozen potatoes.

It just works for us. (And makes me not worry that he's ruining my precious All-Clad.)

  • I almost always make dinner, but DH is almost always home later. On the rare occasion that I am the late one, he will pick something up. If I am not home, he will forage and make his own. He isn't above making something if I were to ask him too, he just generally doesn't think about food until its time to eat.

  • I cook every night.
If I'm working that night, I'll have the kids fed, and a plate waiting for DH when he walks in.
    I take mine to go.

If for some reason I'm not able to make dinner, I'll order in.
I'm more concerned with my children being fed than DH. Before we had kids, I had no problem leaving him to fend for himself.
