Name poll - How do you pronounce Cara?

Sorry if name polls are overwhelming right now. I posted our list on the baby names board. H and I are liking Cara at the moment. We pronounce it care-ah (rhymes with Sarah). How do you pronounce it? Just want to see what is more common. Thanks!

I really like the name, I just on the name board with Kara Vivienne. I don't know if DH will agree though. That name will be honoring my sister and mom. DH is like "what about my mom?".

Anyway, Care-ah, like Sarah.

Glad you asked this, I'm considering this for a middle name to honor a deceased relative, but in my case it should be pronounced "car" not "care" and I think it will be mispronounced the common way (care). But for a middle name it's probably fine.

Kara is Care-ah to me and Cara is Car-ah

I've heard it both ways and I don't think there is a true correct pronunciation.  I think it just depends on the family.

I would default to Care-ah. My sister is named Tara (Tar-ah, not tare-ah) and has to correct people all the time, so I would assume most people would say Care-ah. Also, I don't think starting with a K would change the pronunciation.

I've never seen Cara so I would pronounce it like Kara (care-ah). After reading through the comments I see how car - ah makes more sense.

I don't pronounce it Care (like Sarah or fair) or Car (like a vehicle), but with a short A like in cat. Does that make sense lol? This is how I pronounce the name Farrah too...but I feel like a lot of people pronounce Farrah like fair-uh.

My IRL name is Kara

I get all kinds of pronunciations.

My family pronounces it Cah-ra

My MIL still calls me Kira. 6 years later. And spells it Kera.

You'll get all sorts of pronunciations, no matter how you decide to say it.

Niece is Cara like car-ah. But I knew someone in high school that was Cara but pronounced it care-ah.
