Pregnant after IF

Beta #2 and progesterone

Well guys I'm scared shitless. My beta came back at 1576 which is right on track. But my progesterone dropped from 11.4 to 9. I'll be 5 weeks tomorrow. This morning I had more spotting. It was a brownish color. I called my RE and in freaking out so they are taking me in today for an exam and since my rH is negative I'll most likely need a shot. Ok just scared because this is exactly how my last loss went. Also, they are changing my progesterone from suppositories to cream. Any thoughts or advice.

These tests have error, so I wouldn't necessarily worry that your progesterone is decreasing--it's just still low (I would imagine the margin of error is great than the difference between those two numbers). As others said what you've been doing won't show up in the blood stream, so this doesn't reflect the progesterone support your LO is getting. That said, I'm extremely perplexed that they're switching you to the cream. Everything that I've read says that is a LESS effective mechanism of delivery, and I would encourage you to ask about PIO if you want to up your progesterone intake. Again, if you're doing something like Crinone or Endometrin, the probability is that your pregnancy is well-supported with progesterone, even if your blood tests aren't very high. I don't see why they would take you off those and onto the creams.

I'm Rh negative, too, and the shot isn't a big deal. The OB will test if you're Rh sensitized (unlikely if you got the shot with your prior loss), and if you're not your pregnancy will be easily managed.

Sorry you're going through this, but it's very likely that all is well!

  • the nurse at my clinic thinks my cervix bled a little from the suppositories. when you are pregnant its very easy to irritate your cervix.

Hoping you get great updates soon.

  • I'm sorry that your progesterone dropped (fyi my dr's lab looks for 8 as a minimum, and with supplements you should be ok) but hopefully the brown spotting isn't even related. I had intermittent brown spotting from 5-9 weeks and it was terrible...but meaningless. Hope it's the same for you :)

Here's an update. So the RE looked at my cervix and said it looked great and no sight of blood. Then she did an u/s and we saw a sac (which makes me happy) and she said it's exactly what she expected to see at my stage in the game. She looked at my ovaries and saw where I ovulated from (assuming that's what makes the progesterone?) then she told me that there was no bleeding or sight of blood in the uterus. She advised me to start the gel tonight and drop the suppositories something about data and research... Lost her at that point for a min. Thank god my mom was there with mom me to hear her. She also wants me to stay home from work tomorrow and take it easy and see if the spotting returns. Her exact words were "from what I see everything looks normal". That's comforting. She's going to retest the progesterone and I have my 1st ultrasound in a week. I hope I can make it until then. Thank you guys for all the advice and comforting post. ETA: 2nd beta test came in today. Beta was at 1576 which is great and my progesterone dropped from 11.4 to 9.... Super depressed and scared about that. Hoping this crinone helps.

  • I was on crinone with my IVF cycle (just stopped it a few days ago) and my IVF nurse told me that it absorbs better when you move around (contrary to what I thought... I was thinking lay down for awhile to prevent leaking) so after you put it in walk around for 5-10 minutes. And it WILL leak. I found mine leaked all the time but that does not mean it is not being absorbed.

    Good luck!
