C section and when I will poop

hi all I went into labor on 9/25 and ended up having an emergency c section. I have still not pooped and am in such pain.... If you have had a c section how long after until you went and ate there any tricks to it....... Signed " I really have to go...."

Ask for Collace (I'm surprised they haven't given it to you) Prune juice should help too.

After my sister's C, she didn't poo for 6 days---she ended up needing a suppository. Best of luck.

Umm...I went two days after my c-section and in fact, they were trying to make me go before I left the hospital.  I took Colace pretty much every time I took pain meds and drank a ton of juice and water.  Try filling a sitz bath up with warm water and sitting on it while on the toilet.  That can help relax things downstairs to help you be able to poop.  And be careful with taking too many of the pain pills (you'll want to taper off the heavier pain meds to Motrin or Tylenol as soon as you're able) since those are really constipating.

I also vote Colace, prune juice, oranges and/or apples, probiotics, oatmeal. Just anything that you would take to poop. Post partum pooping can be quite painful if you are not going regularly so Colace for a little while can be really helpful.

wow, yes usually they make you go before you leave the hospital. At my hospital they just give you something the next day. They were constantly asking if I had yet.. They just want to make sure you are put back together correctly I would definitely ask for collace or something. Good luck to you!

I took Colace every time they gave it to me and went two days after surgery.  I am still taking it and have gone everyday since.  Good luck!

I'm a hospital rn and regularly see major pooping problems! From what I see most people (don't hate... I said most) who are multiple days constipated need something stronger like miralax or milk of magnesia. Both of those meds usually do not cause serious cramping. We try 1-2 doses of colace... Doesn't work.. Progress to miralax and then milk of mag. If all of that doesn't work a dose of magnesium citrate (also OTC in a glass bottle) will almost always work but can cause cramping. When I've been super constipated these last few months colace does nothing for me. I use it as a preventative now. Good luck! And drink lots and lots of water!

I have had three c/s and for me the constipation is the worst part of it.  I tried everything to get things moving.  I took every stool softener they gave me, dranks tons of water and juice and tea.  Had lots of high fiber foods like raisin bran and salads.  I also walked as much as they would let me.  All of that did nothing.  My goodness with my second c/s I thought I was going to have to go back to the hospital for a poopectomy.

Finally with my third c/s, I just went ahead and took a suppository after not going for 4 days.  I was so glad I did because I got relief within the hour instead of waiting hours or days for other methods to work,

Milk of mag worked wonders for me last time, but since you've already gone so many days without a BM, I think you need to try what others have suggested and come at it from the other end.  A suppository is a good place to start.  I'm not sure how comfortable it would be trying to get a fleets enema in position by yourself after having a C-Section, but it's sold over the counter as well if you're really desperate.  Are you passing gas at least?  If you're not passing gas then I would contact your OB very, very soon!

Baby 1 I went 8 days. They didn't make me poop before I left just asked if I was passing gas. I finally went and I thought I was birthing another baby!!! HORRIBLE

baby 2, started taking Colace regularly 2 weeks before and on day 1 at home I took a gental lax and went 2 hrs later with zero problems or cramping. They didn't make me poop before I left that time either

I went 6 or 7 days and it was horrible! I took stool softeners and the max laxatives I could to finally go.
