Cloth Diapering

Charlie Banana Help

Previously I mentioned that I was having some troubles with my Charlie's and the inserts. I did a soak in Calgon/Borax/Washing Soda and then switched from Nellie's to Tide and the discoloration and greasiness was taken care of. They are back to white and sparkly.

It seems though they still wick on the legs and around the waist. It doesn't seem that he is straight peeing through them because it's not usually very much. Enough that I have to change his clothes.

It could be a fit issue or maybe it is just charlie bananas? He's a heavy wetter too so maybe I just haven't found the right material to stuff them with?

I don't want to give up on them, maybe when his legs get chunkier or he grows they will fit better but in the meantime I have a question.

So, I've tried the CBIs. Don't particularly like them. Currently I'm stuffing them with FSTs and it seems there is still wicking.

Anything else I should try before I just hold off on using them until he is bigger?

If it matters he's about 11 pounds.

Any advice is appreciated.

Re: Charlie Banana Help

  • That was one of the reasons that I got rid of my CB. C was still pretty little when I got rid of them, maybe 4-5 months, so I don't know if it would have gotten better, but I do know that I replaced them with kawaii's and never had that problem at the same age.

:/ I was afraid of that.
I wonder if anyone has not had this issue or if everyone that uses CBs has a normal wetter.

Unfortunately, for me selling them is not an option because they were a gift from my MIL and I would feel guilty.

I guess at the very least they can be the diapers I send to grandma's house because they are easy.

  • Have you tried adjusting the leg elastics to get a better fit? We had some leaks in the beginning until I realized I needed to really get the legs a lot snugger. There shouldn't be any gaps when you lift LO's legs toward his or her head. The pee will just run right out the gaps instead of absorbing.

  • @unaveragejane‌ yeah I usually get them pretty tight, at least i think som I think at the next diaper change I'll take pictures of the legs and waist to see If they are tight enough.

@AFwifelife‌ any suggestions on what to try next?

  • See where the white inside is sticking out on the leg ruffles?  That might cause wicking.  I had that trouble with my grovias.  I've never used CBs, but that's my guess.

  • Yeah I can't seem to tuck the white in. It might just be how they are designed.

Ill try something more absorbent, and if it doesn't do anything I guess these will just be laundry day diapers.

I guess we're squares because of our pretty boring stash, the diapers that are the most boring work the best for us/ are our favorites.
