Trouble TTC a Sibling

Ibuprofen

My ovulation cramps were so bad I wasn't sure how I'd manage sex. I took a 800 mg ibuprofen. Stupidly, I googled after to see if that was okay. Dr Google mentions it can delay ovulation when taken around the time of egg release. Has anyone's RE mentioned anything like that?

Re: Ibuprofen

  • I get really bad ovulation pain, and Tylenol usually takes the edge off. It doesn't completely get rid of it, but it makes me functional. I think you should be fine, but I would stick to Tylenol in the future. I know ibuprofen was a no no when pregnant, but I have no idea if it messes with ovulation or not.

  • I've never heard that about ibuprofen and ovulation. I'd probably just stick with Tylenol from now on but I'm sure you're fine. And 800 mg of ibuprofen is perfectly safe as long as you don't take it more than 3 times per day (every 8 hours).

  • Thanks guys. I know 800mg is a lot. I normally use them for my tension headaches. My options were the ibuprofen, vicodin or Excedrine migraine. Looks like I need to hit up a store!

I guess I'll know soon enough if it delayed anything.

Also, I'm not addicted to pain pills. I get a lot of headaches. I hate admitting the vicodin because I worked with people who abused drugs. So I always feel slightly defensive if I ever have to take one. My doctor probably thinks I'm crazy!
