NOT a fan at all.  Sounds prima donna/diva to me, and I just don't think it's pretty.

It sounds a little hoity-toity (sp?) for me to ever use myself, but I kind of like it

I hate that name. Every Portia I've ever met was extremely trashy so that's how I see the name...trashy.

I think it's a really pretty name. The only person I've met with this name is the most adorable little 5 year old girl, so I have a positive assocation with it.

I automatically think Shakespeare (character from The Merchant of Venice), then I think Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella (one of the step-sisters). I did bring this up during my last pregnancy but it got vetoed by DH. I like it.

    Hate it.

I'm in the Shakespeare camp -- that is my first association with the name. I suspect the "hoity-toity" prima donna feel is a result of the similarity to one of the common pronunciations of the pretentious car brand Porsche, whether conscious or not.

I think of Shakespeare's Merchant of Venice and Portia de Rossi (of Arrested Development/Ellen's wife fame). It's nms, but I like it.

Love it.  I do worry about the car association though (have the same issue with Mercedes)

I have the same name as a car, and you get a LOOOOOOOT of bad jokes. I'm 33 and people still make stupid comments. Just something to think about.

Isn't that Porky Pig's girlfriend's name?  Either way, it makes me think of a pig.  Sorry, I don't like it at all.
Porky Pig's girl's name was Petunia.  Portia is cartoon pig free
