Baby has a cold, no fever, still smiling and playing etc. Her cough seems to be getting worse though not better, should I take her to the doctor's office during walk in hours tomorrow or just wait and see?

Re: Colds, Wwyd?

  • Never hurts to call - they will be able to tell you over the phone if they think it's worth being seen or not. Hope she feels better soon!

  • I'd probably just wait it out unless the cough is scary sounding (especially a seal bark or wheeze/whoop sound), if she's so clogged up you are worried about breathing, or if she's having striders (diaphragm sucking in just below ribs). I'm a STM though, with my first I'd probably have called the doc ;)

Normally, I'd wait it out but from what I'm reading about the progression of this new respiratory illness, I think better to call just in case.

  • I called, left a message still waiting to hear back. My pedi has walk in hours every morning if I don't hear back or she seems worse I am going to bring her in tomorrow. Tell me more about this respiratory bug going around, maybe I live under a rock but haven't heard.
  • Baby girl has a similar thing going on. Runny nose, some coughing (though I can tell it's from post-nasal drip or dryness), but no fever and no colored mucus, and she seems very content otherwise. Luckily we had our regular 4-month appt in the midst of it so the doctor checked her out and wasn't concerned. She hasn't gotten worse, but the cold hasn't cleared up yet. Hopefully it's just a regular old cold and your baby is better soon!

  • My little guy has been sick for 3 weeks just when he started to get better it turned around and got worse. Luckily I work with our pedi and he called in an antibiotic script. Day 4 and we're seeing an improvement. Hope your little one gets better soon.
  • My DD has a cold as well. I took her to the pedi just to make sure. She said the cough/cold peaks around day 4-5. She said she wasn't worried, but to bring her back if she was struggling to breathe. Flaring nostrils and the diaphragm sucking inward are the things to look for.
Hope your LO feels better soon.

  • Did you take LO to the doctor today? Is everything okay?
