lisa - how is emmy today?

Re: lisa - how is emmy today?

  • Still not good. =(  I just want to cry.  She's better than yesterday, but her temp is still around 101 and hasn't gone done.  She throws up from coughing so hard.  My co worker said that she may have RSV since it's going around.  But with all the research I'm doing, there's not much you can do at this point.  I have a dr appt for her tomorrow afternoon to make sure her lungs are okay and she doesn't have bronchitis or something.

I've never seen her so sick. She's lost 2 lbs already.  However, last night was the first night that she actually slept for about 6 hours straight, but I woke up at 2am so scared and had to go make sure she was okay.

  • Just called my mom and she said that her temp is down and she's now in the high 99!  So that's good news.  My mom was able to do the coin and egg thing for her and the entire coin was black.  I think after that, her temp went down.  My husband always laughed at the whole coin thing, and so he wouldn't help me rub it on DD, and so I never did.  I should've just done it earlier....

  • Poor baby!!

What's the coin and egg thing?  I wonder if it is like the Mexican Ojo with the egg...my family does that and I swear it works better than medicine.

  • that's good news... i certainly hope she continues to improve through the day... is she eating better?

i'm surprised she will stay still enough for your mom to do the coin, maddy would probably scream bloody murder!  even if it doesn't hurt, she hates being forced to do something! (ie. forehead thermometer which she will use on herself when she's not sick! but she will scream and wriggle if you try to use it on her when she's not feeling well)

i think it's good that you waited for your mom... i think you can do more damage than good if you don't do it right.

    keep me posted!

  • The coin (silver dollar) is like some kind of ancient vietnamese thing and it DOES work!  My great grandmom did it for my mom, and my grandmom did it for me.

But basically, you boil the egg, and put the coin in the egg.  Then you put it in the towel and rub the egg all over the body and head and sinus area until the egg is cool.  Then you can look at the coin, if it's black..it's really bad and she was really sick.  Blue means they got sick from the wind, red is sick from the sun.  If they're not sick at all, it stays silver.

no, i believe in the whole "cao gio"/"scratching of the wind" thing!  i just meant that my dh thinks if you don't know how to do it right, you might make things worse. but we both believe it!

  • OHh..I have never cao gio like directly on the skin where it looks like someone whipped you.  There's actually a really more gentler version of it.  You boil the egg ( 2 hard boil eggs, leave one in there on low temp while you're using the other)  When the egg is ready, put it in a handtowel, then put the coin inside the egg.  And then you close the handtowel and rub the handtowel with the egg and coin on the body or whereever they feel bad.  Then the coin changes color based on the skinness.  There should be no pain at all and should be very relaxing because it's something warm being rubbed on you.  Then again, Emmy cried when I used the forehead thermometer on her too.  My mom has this magic on kids.

  • when we were younger my mom did the coin in the egg.. as we got older, she did just the coin (i guess she thought we were tougher! haha!).

and my cousin... he's high tech... he has this cao gio suction cup gun thing, i don't even know how to describe it!

  • I hope she is feeling better soon!

Did your cousin invent that himself??  If so, he should totally get a patent on it!

no, he bought it in VN - hahaha...

  • Do you crack the egg in half to get the coin in or just push it through?  I find these things very interesting.  My grandma takes a room temp egg and rubs it all over a sick person and then cracks the egg in a glass of room temp water and places it under the bed of the ailing person.  If the egg cooks, someone gave them the evil eye.  Amazingly, the sick person gets better pretty darned quick.

Hmmm...I wonder if your egg/coin thing would work with my virus attracting kid?

Harmony, you push the coin through the egg, and so in the end, you kind of half to crack it with the coin first.  Also...the coin has to be silver...I think anything before 1960 something?

Has a raw egg ever been cooked by a body?????  Evil eye! Devil

lisa - how's the little one?

  • so you cook the egg...  then do you peel it?  Or just push it through the shell and into the cooked egg?

wrap it in a damp towel and rub it all over the body?

I love these ancient remedies.  :)

my mom always peeled the shell off the hardboiled egg.

No..just leave the shell on and push the coin through.  Use a DRY terry handcloth.  Then rub on the body and head area.  Like if there's a sore throat, you would rub on the neck a little and maybe the chest if there's a cough, forehead and head for headaches, and under eyes for sinus pains.  Do it until the egg is cool, then open it and look at the coin!  Repeat again with the second egg that is waiting in the low heat water.

OH YEAH!  To clean the coin, you have to take soil and rub it into the coin to get it silver again.

Poor baby is SOOOO skinny.  I think she can probably fit 12 month clothes if she wasn't so tall.  We have a doctor's appt at 4 today and will see how it goes.  I really just want her to eat and drink again.  She seems to be doing a little better with sleep and she's playing a little more.  Her fever is now around 100 or so.

I hope the appt goes well.

We've had a few eggs "cook" in the water.  Creepy, I know.
