Tricks to help baby drop?!

With 6 days to go and baby still hasn't dropped yet, I was reading some tricks online to try and help baby get into place ... One site mentioned an exercise ball so I picked one up. Has anyone heard of this working or have experience using it ?!

  • With 6 days to go, baby has plenty of time to drop. No need to rush it along!

5 cycles of "TTC" - 3 intentional, 2 not so intentional.  5 BFPs.  My rainbow arrived 10/15/14.

  • I know they will drop when they are ready .. Was just reading up on some tips .. No harm in trying.. Anxious to meet her that's all !
  • Thanks for the responses .. Was just wondering !
  • I had a midwife tell me the other day to do pelvic tilts, squats, and use the exercise ball.  I think these techniques are more to help your pelvis become more limber, but she also mentioned it helping the baby drop.  It's worth a try.  My baby is already quite low so I'm not too concerned.
  • It really doesn't matter when they drop.

Active contractions is what pushes them down into your pelvis. There are a lot of moms that don't drop until they are in active labor and there are lots of moms that drop from 30-36 weeks and still go to 40
  • I second what @Justabean3 said. FWIW, I think my baby has spent my entire pregnancy "dropped" (+1 station for a couple weeks now, which is like, IN the birth canal.)  But as my midwife says, without contractions that baby isn't going anywhere.

    Are you being induced?

  • I used a ball with my first and was told it helps. I used it for the week leading up to his birth. It's also very comfy for tv watching ;) I've been reading about it again as my lo is due in 9 days and have been sitting on the ball. I did read today that using the ball to do wall squats helps open the pelvis and can create some progress. I'm with ya excited to meet this baby and I'm over here trying anything including the ball. You can gently bounce, rock your hips back and forth, front to back and lean over it and rock your hips.
  • Nope not being induced, was just a question if anyone has heard it worked... I know she will come when she is ready!
  • Mine dropped a couple of weeks ago.  I work on my feet all day and move around a lot so not sure if that had anything to do with it but from what I hear it doesn't make a difference in terms of when they will be born.  I say thank your lucky stars yours is still high.  Having the head down there makes my vagina ache really bad any time I am standing up and I constantly have to pee. Imagine smuggling a very heavy coconut  up there and that's what it feels like!

Baby dropping doesn't mean they are ready to be born, it simply means they will push on your cervix and bladder more.

This. It's not comfortable at all. Be glad LO hasn't dropped.

Same here - midwife said walking, wall squats, sitting on the birthing ball...all would be good for helping baby move down some and get pelvis in good shape. But as other PPs have said, I've been told baby will drop when its ready. Trade offs it seems to dropping - sounds very hard with having to pee all the time, etc....but the baby staying high - like mine is leads to constant heartburn....I'm 7 days away and not worried- know this lol will come when he or she is ready...not a minute sooner.

  • For me it was vacuuming that seemed to get my little one moving downwards.

Ya we took a birth class and she said 'if baby drops you'll find it easier to breathe but on the flip side you'll feel like you have to pee all the time.' Pregnancy is so glorious isn't it? Really not sure if breathing is worth it...
  • Always a plus side to everything I guess ! Lol
