Items you still need for baby?

This thread will either help me get my butt in gear or ease my nerves...

Does anyone still need to get any big ticket items for baby?

I still need:
- A convertible car seat; we have the infant seat but I'm assuming LO will grow out of it by 11 mos or so like DD did.
- A crib - MIL said she would buy this but I will feel better about it when she gives me the delivery receipt (but we really don't need it until LO turns 3 months)
- Waiting for the armoire to be delivered in Nov but still have to pay for it
- Baby monitor, even though we already have one to hear DD in the nursery from our bedroom and living room I want one so that I can hear from the kitchen.
- Sheets for bassinet and crib

I guess that's not much but there's just something about having everything ready that would be so much more relaxing...
I better add new pump parts to this list!

  • Loading the player...
  • The 2nd car seat base for DH's truck just arrived! Glider is on its way. Other than that I feel we have all of our big things. LO will be sleeping in her room from day 1 so we had to get all our big things now. Her room is completely furnished and we just have small things to go. Extra crib sheets, some receiving blankets, mittens, socks, hangers, a lamp...

  • Nothing too exciting left to buy...

    -Medela SNS
-New hygiene kit for my pump
    -nursing bras
-Better nursing pillow.  I had a Boppy-like one and hated it.  I want a Brest Friend this time.
-New crib sheet if I cant find the ones from our previous daughter
-post partum stuff.  (pads and all that fun stuff)
-maybe a change mat or two
-diaper pail and wet bag for CDs.  (ANY SUGGESTIONS?)

I got all my wet bags from Amazon.com, if you mean the ones to take with you in diaper bags like this:

  • I need a baby monitor but am unsure if it's a necessary purchase right away if she'll be sleeping in our room .... any advice?

  • Oh geez. I feel like I have a ton, but considering I'm waiting on delivery of our dresser, and for DH to build me storage shelves, I have no place to put anything!

I still need a breast pump (have to wait until 30 days prior as someone else said), some crib sheets, and a changing pad and covers. Diaper pail too. And a ton more wipes. We're hesitating on stocking up on diapers until we know what brand we like.

Definitely still have some stuff to pick up for me (mostly postpartum stuff and BF pump accessories as needed) but I "think" we are pretty well set for all of our immediate baby needs. I'm not going to worry too much about things like high chairs or teething items that baby won't need right away. With no baby shower and Christmas coming up after LO arrives I figure we might get a few of the things that we will need later.

    Still need:
    An easy coming home outfit
A K'Tan carrier that fits DH or a Mai Tai
A co-sleeper* and extra sheets for it
    Burp cloths

*We got a bassinet but after our breastfeeding class I really want LO next to me for 3-6 months before moving to a crib. So we will either get one of the co-sleepers that can rest in the bed or an Arms Reach co-sleepers.

I feel like there is a lot more I "want" - not sure how much are "needs" at this point! I'm not worrying about a baby monitor until she starts sleeping in the nursery around 3 months or so.

    -baby monitor

    -changing pad

-diaper bag (hopefully at shower this weekend!)

    -bag for breast pump

    -nursing bras

    -winter clothes

-wipes (we have a pretty good stock of diapers to start!)

-mopy wrap - found a lightly used one for $15 now just need to buy it from the lady

    -shampoo/lotion/thermometer

  • @moroccojade‌ I went with the PlanetWise hanging wet bags for the nursery/bathroom and their wet/dry medium travel bag to use in the diaper bag. I also might of gotten a small wet/dry one for bringing homemade wipes and to throw breast pads into. Also, I'd suggest if you're going to get a pillow for feeding to look at Dr. Brown's Gia. It's angled so the babies head is up and the butt is down to help with digestion.

@Carebella -- Thanks for the suggestions!  I was wondering about a hanging bag....    Great prints, decent price.  :)

I just had a look at the Gia.  I like the idea of "butt down" to aid digestion.  (We might not get so lucky this time around... our first daughter had a stomach of steel.  This one might be a sensitive little thing.)   The only thing that I would miss is that it doesn't clip on.  I like that about the Brest Friend.

I have a few smaller ones for the diaper bag(s).  I just need a good sized one for home!

  • We still need...
    Breast pump (through insurance)
Breast feeding supplies (storage bags, lanolin, pads, cover, etc)
    Nursing bras/camis
    Extra crib sheets
    Changing pad covers

Then after baby I'll get my final "big" items
    Convertible car seat
    High chair
  • We are pretty much ready. I made a list a few nights ago. It's basically just the little things: more scratch mits, more socks, wipes, baby kit. (clippers, Tylenol, etc)

  • Ugh, I'm feeling like we still need a lot.

    - monitor
    - stroller (picked out and my dad and DH's mom are supposedly buying it for us)
    - sheets
    - diaper bag
    - a second diaper pail? (Haven't decided on this. We will have a changing spot up and downstairs- think I need 2?)
    - a few more sleepers/clothes in 0-3 month size
    - diapers and wipes etc.
    - second breastfeeding pillow?
    - swing or bouncy seat- will just get one and then see if I want the other. Will likely buy second hand.
    - replacement parts for Medela pump SIL gave me and bags to store milk
    - car mirror and sun shades
    - Nosefrida- likely not a necessity, but everyone says how awesome it is.
    - Post-partum supplies for me

Why is my list longer than everyone else's!?

  • I need a baby monitor but am unsure if it's a necessary purchase right away if she'll be sleeping in our room .... any advice?

@ssstephanie214 I would get one now, this way you can lay the baby down in the swing, pack and play or whatever in the living room and hear the baby say in the kitchen or your bedroom...

  • I'm pretty well stocked on the big stuff, so just need some smaller things.  I still need a diaper pail and diapers, breast pump (waiting til 30 days out like others), PnP sheets (baby will sleep there at first), waterproof pads for PnP and crib, pacis, more bottles.  Stuff like that!  My issue is more dealing with what we do have- currently the PnP and changing table are sitting in boxes in our living room, I haven't looked at the monitor or k'tan to know how to use them yet, etc.

  • We need the second stroller attachment for our B-Ready and a convertible car seat, but will most likely wait to purchase these items until the spring.

I'd also like to get a new carrier (the Boba Air) before he arrives, but it's not an emergency. :)

  • My work friends are hosting a shower on October 9th and my non-work friends are hosting one on Nov 2nd  - so well, we  have pretty much nothing at this point.

I was impressed with myself for just making my registry last weekend!

  • @Emnob28‌ that was kind of my thought too. We were given a second hand diaper pail by BIL and SIL but I put one on my registry hoping to get a second. No such luck! The problem is that it was get so damn cold here that I'm afraid that I'll wish I had one. It seems like a bit of a luxury to have two though.
  • -crib mattress pads
-car seat base for DH's car
-breast pump (need to order through insurance)
    -breast bump accessories

I'm sure I'm missing something but off the top of my head these are things I know we're missing. I don't have the exersaucer but it's not needed for a while.

I hear ya on the cold front - I am worried about the same thing.  I may just end up throwing a few grocery bags of dirty diapers out in the garage then have MH take them All the way to the curb if it gets too bad :)

Now that's an idea I can get on board with!

My shower isn't til October 18th,   so EVERYTHING.      Oh wait....we bought the crib, so we have that.   :)
This is me too. We are shower twins!

I don't expect to get a ton of stuff at the shower, so I'm thinking I may start to chip away at my to buy list as soon as those completion coupons start rolling in.
