MN suggestion for Adalyn?

I know Adalyn isn't a favorite on here, but we keep coming back to it as our top girl name.

Looking for advice/opinions on a middle name. Our last name starts with "Mc" and is 4 syllables.

Looking for something more traditional since Adalyn (NN Addie) is not.

I like Elizabeth but DH likes Marie.

Thoughts?

Re: MN suggestion for Adalyn?

  • Is there a family name you would think of using or variates of it? Perhaps a name after someone?  A cultural or ethnic name?

I guess if you are liking Elizabeth and Marie it is traditional names that you like?

So I guess the obvious ones would be: Charlotte, Penelope, May, Rose, Louise,Frances or something a little more oldfashioned - Mabel, Joan etc

And why in Gods name aren't you spelling it Adeline

To me Adaline is pronounced "Add-a-Line," whereas i feel Adalyn would be pronounced "Add-a-Lynn." Plus i really just prefer this spelling.

Because it is French is should actually be pronounce with a -leen on the end.

  • Either are fine.

    Catherine? Ann.
  • I might do a shorter mn since Adalyn is 3 syllables and your ln is 4.  Adalyn Ruth, Adalyn Grace, Adalyn Claire, Adalyn Paige, Adalyn Joy
  • My daughter is Addilyn Kay. (I know the spelling, compromise with DH)

It was my mothers middle name and I used it to honor her, but I really like the one syllable mn with the 3 syllable first name as the PP said.
