Is "Winter" a real name?

I have heard this name recently for girls, and even saw that it was in the top 1000 names in the US population last year. Is this a respectable name, or seen as strange/eccentric? Just genuinely curious :-)

It's real! It's also a guilty pleasure name of mine, one I might maaaybe consider using in the middle name spot because for some reason I really like it. (Though I hate Summer and Autumn...)

I also feel it's eccentric, but pretty. If I used it at all it would be in the middle name spot. Also if it means anything, Autumn and Summer don't seem strange to me at all, but Spring ... no.

A little less common than Summer and Autumn, but it's not terribly unusual.

When you guys say guilty pleasure, does that mean that you love it but are aware other people may find it odd? I guess that's kind of where I am too, but at the same time I find it SO poetic! It sounds unusual but classy at the same time... if that makes sense?

When I say GP, I mean that I love the name but I find it to be too much to be an actual human beings name.

Ex: marigold, birdie, primrose.

I love the names and would love to have a little Prim around the house but I can't imagine sending a kid out in to the world with a name like that.

When I say GP, I mean that I love the name but I find it to be too much to be an actual human beings name. Ex: marigold, birdie, primrose. I love the names and would love to have a little Prim around the house but I can't imagine sending a kid out in to the world with a name like that.

I personally love Winter and think it is a pretty name with a classic feel. I had it on my short list for awhile but DH was never sold. This thread is making me want to put it back on there!!

The actress that plays Lyla on Sons of Anarchy is named Winter.

I don't love it, but it's a name.

I really do love it. It sounds sweet and pure.

I also love GP names like Eirawen and Gwyneira (basically means "Snow White" in Welsh). What little girl wouldn't love a princess name?
