Why?

Why is every step such an ordeal?

Two things I need to do. DS needs a complete private eye exam, because the pediatrician and school does not agree to his vision scores. The school needs proof from an optomitirist. Which on a side note let me tell you how much I'm dreading getting his eyes dialiated, he freaks out over getting soap in his eyes.

Also, the school needs a letter from DS pediatrician noting the ADHD DX. Oh but that can't be easy to get...they need a q&a to be filled out from the parents and teacher in order to verify the DX, even though I have a packet to show proof.

What a PITA.

Re: Why?

  • My sympathies. I had to take DD1 to the ophthalmologist last month, and she had a total anxiety-induced freak out over getting the eye drops to dilate her eyes. I had to hold her down while the nurse put the drops in. She was screaming her head off until the first drop went in, and she realized it didn't hurt. I had the baby with me, too, so we had to call in another nurse to hold the baby while I restrained DD1. It was insanity.

Yup, has to be an MD. I'm going to speak with the pedi tomorrow, and show him the packet. He is a pretty reasonable man, so he may just sign off based on the packet I'll show him.

Eta: I have a discount plan! through my insurance. I love my health insurance this year. :D

  • For DD they used a numbing drop first, so the drops didn't hurt in the slightest. She was totally fine once we got past actually getting the drops in. The doctor wanted to examine her retina and optic nerve, so we had to dilate.
  • Definitely agree with @BostonKisses about going the route of pedi optho.  They are such more comprehensive in knowing kids and eye issues and they see so much more.
To my boys:  I will love you for you Not for what you have done or what you will become I will love you for you I will give you the love The love that you never knew
  • I also recommend using a pedi opthalmologist. Also, try to schedule the appointment later on in the afternoon since his eyes will be sensitive to light. That is what our pedi opthalmologist recommended. DS2 had a rough time with the dilation drops and the rest of the day he kept closing and rubbing his eyes, so I'm glad we did not make the appointment early in the day and bedtime was only a few hours away.
