Trouble TTC a Sibling

Clomid

Any btdt ladies care to share your experience on Clomid?

I had my first appt with the RE today.  Background: I have PCOS and recently had my left ovary and tube removed due to a large cyst that developed. RE has given me a rx for progesterone to kick-start a new cycle. He is also sending me for blood work to check AMH level.  I'll go in on day 2-4 of my cycle for a baseline sonogram. Then I'll have a round of Clomid 50mg/day for 5 day. On day 12 (or thereabouts), I'll have another sonogram to see if there are any mature follicles. He'll give me an HCG injection to trigger ovulation, and we'll DTD days 13-15. I'll go back on Day 20-ish to check progesterone levels.

It feels a little surreal.  I think for the sake of preserving my own sanity, my brain has sort of shifted into this place where pregnancy is something that will happen during some cycle in the moderately distant future. The idea that it could happen *THIS CYCLE* has me antsy and nervous. It's weird!  We want this so badly! Why would I get cold feet all of a sudden??

Re: Clomid

  • It sounds like you have a great plan in place. Cold feet are normal, it's such an exciting and scary time.

Not to scare you, but my personal experience with clomid was that it made me a crazy woman - but that was probably made worse by the stress of ttc.  I hope that everything works out for you this cycle, and that you don't have those side effects (not everyone does).  However, if you do have any adverse reactions and there is a need for another cycle then maybe ask the dr. about trying femara.  I didn't have any side effects from that. (and I actually ovulated without the trigger, which I never did on the clomid).  Just wanted to throw that out there as something to keep in mind.

    best of luck to you

  • Hi!  I remember feeling exhausted and emotional, but mostly, I remember the crampy feelings in my ovaries.  I literally felt like my right ovary (which is the one I ovulated from) was in hyper-drive.  Crampy, full feeling, constant twinges.  It was kind of crazy!  The emotional, exhausted part passed after the Clomid was done, but the ovary stuff continued the whole cycle (until ovulation).  Good luck!  I haven't done a trigger, but planning it if I ever get to complete a cycle this time around.  :)

  • Thank you ladies! I'm hoping to get lucky enough not to have crazy symptoms. Definitley preparing myself to hold it together if the meds make me stabby.

    Fingers crossed this works!

  • Good luck!!! Sounds like you have a great plan.  Clomid took a couple of days to build up symptoms but then I was edgy (I love sarcztic10's term - it's perfect).  I just had to keep reminding myself that it is the drugs and not me.  It really wasn't as bad as I thought!

    Good luck!!
