Maternity Support Belt

Hi! So I'm thinking of getting a maternity support belt. My doctor wrote a script for the prenatal cradle mini, and I know that I can find something like that on amazon. It's pretty cheap. In my experience, they bill out astonishingly high to the insurance company and then I have to pay a ridiculous copay if I get it at a specialty pharmacy... Something like $50 or $100 for "durable medical equipment"... They do that with prescriptions for Tylenol and Benadryl, too... Charger the insurance company more than it would cost us to just buy the damn bottle... It's a way they make money, according to a pharmacist friend of mine... I think I'm better off just ordering online? Does anyone have one? What brand did you get and did you just buy it or use insurance (assuming you're in the US)? I'm not sure if I should get the small belly band or the one that goes around my shoulders, too. I'm waiting to hear back from the nurse at my doctors office, but I thought maybe someone on here would have experience, too. Thanks in advance for any help you could provide!

Re: Maternity Support Belt

  • I wear a mini-cradle (wearing it now) and it's perfect throughout the entire pregnancy, plus it doesn't show under clothes

  • @marsavary, mine helps with most back/side pain because it relieves the stress put on those muscles by distributing it along the band

  • Have this simple maternity support band from Motherhood right now, but waiting for this one to come in the mail, upon my OB's recommendation to upgrade...
The maternity support belt you are waiting on is the one I have. I got it at babies r us and I love it. It really does take pressure off your back and hips. The only downside is I feel like i need to wear a light tshirt under it because its kind of itchy, and when i wear jeans with the full belly in it i just wear it over that. However, that means you have to take it off everytime you go to the bathroom. It is definately worth it though.

  • Mine is from mother-to-be.. I've only had it for 2 days now so I don't want to judge it yet. Sometimes its uncomfortable if I wear it with the wrong clothes.

Does anyone who is carrying low and using a maternity support belt feel like they're squishing baby? I know it sounds dumb - but LO is always pretty low and I'm trying out a support belt today that my friend let me borrow (It looks similar to the one PugLife linked to above) and I just feel like rather than sort of lifting my bump, I'm just squishing the lower part of it.

Yes! MH keeps asking me if I'm squishing the LO. I stopped wearing it yesterday because I didn't feel much support and I felt like I was squishing my low rider. Maybe I'm wearing it wrong?

  • @leosmom25, my belt fits right under the bump and cradles the lower bit so when DD hangs out low, it gives her additional support rather than my ever present hand supplying it.  I'd think a belt that rides up on the bump isn't the right fit or a bad design possibly

  • I bought one on amazon, it was like $15. I tried it about a month ago and felt like it didn't do anything, but I think my bump might have not been big enough yet. I'm going to give it a go tonight at work. Hoping it helps because this kid is getting heavy!
  • I've been using this:https://www.toysrus.com/product/index.jsp?productId=10813242&cp=&parentPage=search

I asked the doc about it the other day because I've been getting sharp pains when I move during the night and all of that.  He said safe to wear to bed, as long as it's comfortable for mom.  I slept in it for the first time last night and it actually helped a lot.  I've liked this one so far.

I didn't realize how expensive this was (it was a gift from my mom) but it is amazing! It got rid of my SI joint pain and i am pain free with it on. I got the nude color and fits discreetly under my clothes. After baby you can turn it around and it helps hold your tummy in place.

It's possible I have one that is a bad design. I got it off amazon per my OBs recommendation. I'm going to wear it to my appointment next week and ask her if she thinks it's right or if I'm just wearing it wrong. I am carrying very, very low this time though. In order for the belt to go under my belly it would literally need to wrap around my butt. I can't win.

  • Just got one and it's a dream! Got the Curad one that looks like the heavy duty Motherhood Maternity one. We're going to a huge festival today, so I think it will be a welcome relief! Thanks for the recommendations, everyone :)
