Pregnant after a Loss

Panarama test

Anyone do the Panarama test for Downs? Doc said I really don't have any factors to have a baby with downs but I did do the testing with DD just to put my mind at ease.

Of course he says you can find out the sex earlier with this test as well, which is something I would like to know, but could wait till later on to find out. How accurate is the gender part of the test? Do they just take blood for the test or does it involve something else.

I went ahead and set my appointment up for Friday to do the test and right as the Dr. was explaining it he got called to do an emergency delivery, so that's why he didn't get to answer these questions.

I had arranged to do this test, but unfortunately a m/c was discovered the day of the blood draw.  It's a blood test, and it tests for DNA.

This website was really helpful for me when I was deciding whether to have it done.

I had the test done because I am 39 and my previous loss was due to chromosomal issues - it's a simple blood draw.  It's ability to correctly determine the sex is close to 100% - take a look at:

I had this test done at 10 weeks. They test for the main trisomies like 21, 18 and 13 and some sex chromosome abnormalities. You can also opt to add in microdeletions which I did. The test if extremely expensive if you don't qualify based on age or past history so check with insurance.

@mypeanut22 Hi there, I just joined the bored a few days ago. I was looking for a disussion on these type of tests and other chromosomal testing. I'm wondering if you decided on getting tested?

With my first pregnancy, I was all up for the testing, but now with this second pregnancy I'm not too sure. Part of me is afraid that the stats may not come out in  my favor (I don't have family history of down syndrome or any other abnormalities) and then I'm going to worry for the rest of the pregnancy. Also, there is no way I would terminate the pregnancy so I ask myself, what is the point? However, another big part of me would like to know to be more at ease...

If any other ladies care to share what helped them decide to test or not to test would be greatly appreciated.

@beemaya83 I think the most compelling reason that I would have the testing done (I didn't because I opted for the NT since I am over 35, and would have done BW if an abnormalities were found at that scan) is so that you make the right decision on where to deliver. Depending on the medical issues, you may need different neonatal specialists, a surgical suite immediately following delivery, and medications on hand or whatever.

beemaya83  Yes I did have the Panorama done, basically for peace of mind. I would not have terminated pregnancy if the test came back having a greater chance of downs but I would just want to be prepared for what was to come. It was a simple blood test and my dr office had the results back in two weeks. Everything checked out well and we are having a BOY!!!!!! Best of luck with your pregnancy!
