Tuesday Randoms.

Re: Tuesday Randoms.

  • Oh! I was catching up while mobile earlier and forgot to comment on the swaddle thing.

We will be swaddling.  With velcro swaddling blankets. Because I'm just not talented enough to do that shit with a regular blanket.
I have one swaddle me, one sleep sack & one hybrid (a swaddle me that you can use with arms in or out)... we'll see which one this kid prefers, but at least I've got all my bases covered.

If he's anything like me though, he'll prefer arms in. I'm a tucker! I hate to be wrapped in blankets but I always tuck a hand in my shirt or shorts (Al Bundy style) when I sleep.

  • BTW, SWADDLE 4 LYFE!!!  My daughter would not sleep without a swaddle and would wake herself up with her flailing arms.  To be fair, her sleep improved the most when we moved to a double swaddle.  She would actively fight the single swaddle so we thought maybe she didn't like it.  Then she didn't sleep.  So we tried the double swaddle and that was enough weight on her, I guess, that she stopped fighting and gave in to the sweet slumber.  I definitely would do it again.  We used SwaddleMe velcro swaddles on the bottom, and then an A+A swaddle on top.  I felt like a baby ninja when we figured it out.

  • This is all I can think of with the "walking out the baby" mentions is Unk's "Walk It Out" (I can't post the video...)

You seriously just took me back! I moved to Atlanta in 2005 and used to go to this ghetto establishment AKA "da club" with my friends. The kind of place where dudes would catch the Marta from Bankhead to attend... with gold grills & dark shades. DJ Unk was in heavy rotation at that place! Good times... no wonder they closed that place. It was in Buckhead of all places! lol

DS spent the entire latter half of my pregnancy with his little fists up on either side of his face, and after he was born, he wanted to always have his little fists up like that when he slept. He hated having his arms down...so he wouldn't let us swaddle him. I still have some swaddle-me Velcro things (brand new unopened...not sure why we never returned them) and plenty of swaddling blankets, so if this LO likes swaddling, we'll be prepared. All of that said, bedsharing babies should not be swaddled while asleep next to mom, so we won't be swaddling at night regardless. He can be swardled for naps and during the day if he likes it. :) ETA: man, I win the award for most times saying swaddled in one post. :P
I'm glad you said that. We don't PLAN to bedshare, but we also know that my husband refused to sleep as a baby unless he was in bed with my MIL. That's the story anyway. So, we don't PLAN on doing it, but you never know, so just knowing that little fact, I can keep it in my back pocket.

Yep! Not safe to swaddle and bedshare.

Here's something else (some simple PDFs) for your back pocket in case you end up doing some bedsharing:

  • I am a swaddler. DS would NOT sleep without the swaddle.  We are doing it again. DH is an expert swaddler.  That man sucks at a lot of parenting jobs, but diapers and swaddles are where he excels.  He gets excited to be so good at something.  If I took that from him, he might have no reason to go on. I cannot believe some people are recommending blankets tucked around baby. That scares the crap out of me.  They could come loose! It is so weird how the rules change. I don't like  change, I can't deal.
I thought the same thing when the instructor suggested it. I thought well I'm NOT doing that!

You ladies make me laugh! Thanks :x

DH also wants to know when the baby will be born so he can plan things out at work. Yes my doctor mention inducing me but quite frankly I want to give my body as much time as it needs before baby time. Also, I don't have it in me to contact said hospital about all the bills they keep sending me.

Those notches just send you an invoice with a service date and an amount...Ok I'm just gonna pay that no questions asked...nope (more about principal than on financial ability)

Also, I did not follow Purp's Pillow Plan (silly me) and must have slept with my jaw clenched most of the night because it hurts like a mug today.  Eating my apple at lunch was worse than being 38.6 weeks pregnant.  Oh wait...

5 cycles of "TTC" - 3 intentional, 2 not so intentional.  5 BFPs.  My rainbow arrived 10/15/14.
TFMC 08.02.13 at 19+ weeks. Everyday I grieve for my little Olive.

  • Im a little late to all of this early eviction talk, but I have something some might not like but anyway...

Ive been having prodromal labor for a week now. Painful, real labor contractions that havent progressed me any further than a 3 since Wednesday last week. Ive went into L&D twice thinking it was time and the OBs for at least 2 extra checks last week. Each time, Id be contracting regularly at 5 min or less and sometimes only able to moan through contractions, they were so painful.

Today at my 37 week appointment, I was still 3 cm, even with painful contractions since yesterday morning. My OB said that if this continued the same until 39 weeks, then at that point, they would break my water and get this baby out. Im perfectly fine waiting till then. Im not trying to get her out now but would kind of love it if she came in the next two weeks.

Im not trying to be snarky, but Im pretty sure at 39 weeks if things are still the same, I will go ahead and be induced. Is this a bad decision? Part of me feels selfish but I feel like at that point, things will be ok. I just dont know how much more my body can take these contractions. :-<

It's in yesterday's Randoms thread, maybe midway through. Page 8 or so?

I will start campaigning to make it a sticky. It's saved so many lives already.

I'm curious about this too.  My doctor told me that the healthiest babies are born at 39 weeks but he tried to induce me early this week??  I said no because of what I've been reading here.  I'm kinda confused because do I believe my doctor or my friends in the computer?

ETA: His reasoning being that he is concerned about the size of the baby.  Yet I read that his tests could be 1-2 pounds off and baby could be smaller?
You know how I feel about those size of the baby estimates!  Unless you've been getting routine growth ultrasounds and they've been able to track over time (and it's been the same person performing the scan each time), I feel like the measurements are less likely to be accurate and not a good reason to induce early.  I *believe* the ACOG guidelines on inductions due to fetal macrosomia are for women with GD who are anticipated to have about 9-9.5+ lb babies or women without GD who are anticipated to have 11lb+ babies.
No routine growth ultrasounds.  Doctor says his guess on baby's size is 9 plus pounds.  He suggested the early induction and I said let's wait a little longer.  I go back Thursday so we will see.  I guess it's all moot until I see how my cervix is progressing then.  Doesn't stop me from worrying like a mad woman though!
@duckr, how did he determine the baby's size? Through ultrasound or fundal measurements? Even if he used an ultrasound, those measurements can be off by 1lb either way.

There is a woman here with a newborn, an 18 month old, a 5 yr old and about a 7yr old. The two older kids are beating the crap out of each other happily with blocks. The mom is pretending not to notice. I don't know how she does it, I'd be 100% BSC by now if in her shoes.

Also, one of the kids just stomped on my foot while chasing the other one.
