NBR: Dog chewing holes in carpet

Today our dog chewed not just 1, but 2 decent size holes in our carpet. The only thing we can think of is that DS might have spit up in those areas and we didn't get it cleaned up well enough so her nose found it. But seriously, our dog is spoiled rotten. Since DS was born we have made sure to give her special attention, continue her routine with doggy day care once a week, and she's even getting 2 walks a day. Does anyone else have experience with their dog chewing holes in the carpet and is there anything I can do to make her stop?

Re: NBR: Dog chewing holes in carpet

  • Hmm. Your assumption seems like a good one. The only time our dog chewed up out rugs was during a workday when she was a puppy. Sounds like yours is getting plenty of stimulation so spit up seems logical.

  • Our dog hasn't chewed a whole in the carpet, but he crazily licks the places where a) Em spits up or b) my boobs leak. Weird dog.

  • Try a cone head if it will be unsupervised.

  • @bunannie I'm guessing it was a routine thing. We've tried so hard to keep her routine consistent, but we had people over on Sunday for the football games, so that could have thrown her off for Monday. Hard to say. Dogs are crazy. We have a poodle/King Charles Cavalier mix.
She used to eat holes in my maternity clothes when I was pg. but stopped as soon as I had the baby. She's also eaten underwear, never money though. That would be really sad.

@jcrewgirl85 she's licked the places my boobs have leaked too. It weirds me out.

  • @bazingaa She likes her kennel so she's always kenneled when we're not home. She's done this while we're home, typically when we're distracted, etc. So I think it is a bit of obsessed with spit smell/defiance because of baby. We've decided to kennel her when we can't supervisor her. I think a cone might make her feel really bad.

  • @bunannie I didn't know that about banks! Haha!
But I would flip if I came home to shredded money. I just remembered my dog got a hold of one of my savings bonds once, no idea why it was laying around and I kind of freaked about that. But then remembered it probably had another 20 years before it would even be worth cashing in.

I told MH last night, we literally will never have anything nice again until kid moves out and dog is gone. But I figure life's too short to worry about having nice stuff.
