Ok talk me down please

Well first off sucks to be a wm right now.  Dh took Levi for his 6month and they heard for the first time a heart murmur.  Now, I have one and very rarely can a health care provider even hear/find it.  I know until we get further testing, etc I shouldn't worry, but seriously come the fuck on.  Exactly how do I not worry atleast a little.  Please talk me down, more than likely functioning heart murmur, it will heal/close on it's own, etc.  damnit this will be a long day.
Other news he is a long bean.  281/2 " long, 90something percentile..what?  50something for weight at 17lbs 8oz...

  • That news is scary @kelley72‌ but my little bro had one when he was young and is completely fine now, living a ridiculously awesome life. It's probably worse for you because you cannot be with LO as you are at work but take a bit Of a break, grab a coffee and breathe for a second. You will figure this out.
  • I'm so sorry! One of my friends' daughter has one and the doctor said it will heal on its own. She almost 3 years old and is healthy!

I had one (and still do) and am living a pretty much normal life. (Any health issues I've had are 100% unrelated to the heart murmur!) Sorry you had to hear that though. I am sure if the doc said there was ANY potential health concern with my LO I would worry the same way.

  • I completely understand how you feel. Our pedi heard a heart murmur at Abby's 2 month appointment, and I was super worried. She sent us to a specialist, and he said he heard one too, but that they rate them on a 1-6 severity scale, and she was barrrrrely a 1. He told me that he would instruct our pedi to treat her as a baby with a normal heart, because the murmur will likely go away on its own. Hope that helps you a little!!!

  • I have no personal experience here but it seems to me that if they are just now hearing it at 6 months it can't be very severe. It will be ok - lots of people have them and are otherwise healthy.

  • I understand. I have mitral valve prolapse, tricuspid regurgitation and supraventricular tachycardia. I asked our pedi about LO having it (my mom has MVP too) and now we prob have to get testing done. I worry even though I'm sure it's fine. I don't have to take meds. I have some lifestyle modifications I do and that helps. I'm otherwise healthy and manage just fine. I think when it comes to our kids we'll always worry. I'm sure he'll be fine, momma.

  • Thank you all!  Ugh, yes it is of course normal to be worried about anything/any possibility with our lo's!
@theluckiest9 thank you especially bc of your personal experience, I like I said above, have a functioning murmur and haven't been checked since childhood- it is not something to mess around with so of course follow-up apt with pediatric cardiologist will happen soon.  I just need to get home and squeeze my little man.
  • I just wanted to say I'll be thinking of you and hoping you get a quick cardiologist appt that confirms nothing serious!!

  • Also, I have no heart murmur so I really don't think that is a great indicator of a problem! (At least in my own experience) let us know how everything goes!
