Boob Boulder :(

I have already searched through as I know this has come up plenty of times previously, but I'm out of ideas and couldn't find anything I hadn't already tried.
I've woken up to a blocked duct in the good boob that I can't clear with massage, hand expression, warm compresses or the breast pump :( Any other suggestions? Em's still feeding from it (not very well, but she's giving it a go)....bloody thing is like a boulder!

  • Make sure LO's nose or chin is pointing toward the clog. Massage the clog toward the nipple while she is nursing. Keep trying everything you already mentioned and hopefully it will clear!!

  • I agree with @tessymessy. Point chin or nose toward the clog and that generally helps resolve it within a few nursing sessions. Also, wear loose clothing for the day if you can.

  • 800mg of ibuprofen can help reduce the inflammation, too. Heat never works for me, but ice does.
I hope you get some relief!
  • I've never had this, just wanted to extend my sympathy. I know you're already having a hard time, so it sucks adding this on top of everything else

  • I used to take a comb to my boobs while taking a steaming hot shower. I would literally "comb" the clog away. Sounds super weird, but it worked for me
  • Thanks for the suggestions ladies - I tried most of them, did feel a bit of a plonker trying the one where I laid Em in the floor and hovered over her....didn't help that she kept roll over, whilst feeding, either! Now have gravity and feeding stretched nips lol
Good news is that my little madam managed to clear the blockage late this afternoon during a sleep nursing session....the bad news is she's now screaming hysterically if I try and give her the other boob :(
  • So glad it cleared! Those hurt. Hopefully she remembers how well she liked the other side soon.

  • I'm glad you were able to clear the plug! Dangle feeding made me feel like a cow!

Lol :) It's bad enough when the SO refers to me as the milk float or mobile vending machine....this did not improve the situation, but gave him a good laugh at least

Dangle feeding was a failure for us. LO thought it was so funny and kept in latching and laughing at me.
