Cloth Diapering

He detergent.. Non he machine

I know this has been asked before but I'm mobile and can't find the post. So, I noticed that the box of tide I have says he. I have a non he machine. I've been using it for probably 1 month. I've been using just under the 1 line for a full load. Can I use this detergent still? Do I need to do anything special with the diapers now? Thanks ladies.

Re: He detergent.. Non he machine

  • It's fine. You can't use non HE detergent in a HE machine. It only works the one way.

  • Are your diapers getting clean? If so, no. If not, yes.

  • They seem to be. I just want to make sure I'm not causing build up. Will I know if I am?

  • Yes. Here's my thing. Right now what you're doing is working. You can keep doing it and something may go wrong in the future. You can change it and that change may make something go wrong. So either way, something may go wrong. Just keep doing what's working until and unless it does.

Sorry to thread jack, but I just bought a box of Tide (powder) to try, and realized after I opened it that it doesn't say HE (and I have a HE FL).  Crap, can I not use it?  I just did one load (of clothes) with it before I realized.  Guise, I have wasted SO much money on detergent, it's killing me!

  • I have used non HE powder in my HEFL before. I just used about half the amount of what I would use in a non HE washer and it was fine, but I wasn't washing diapers, just cothes.
  • Non HE detergent produces more suds. To use a non HE detergent in a HE machine reduce the amount used by half. This is the recommendation we were given when I sold appliances, about 10 years ago.

  • Ok, that is good to know.  Thank you!  I will just use it for clothes and not diapers.

  • I used about half a box of tide powder before I realized it was non HE. I didn't Notice any problems, but that's not to say there couldn't be. I bought the correct one asap though. I was using up to the 1 line.
