  • I put ss. Last year was the first year I got it and I only did it because of dd. I guess I'll keep getting it. I really hadn't thought about it.

  • I started getting it 4 years ago because it was mandatory for work (hospital). Now I will continue to because it's safer for Joey.

  • I probably will. I have gotten it sporadically over the years, but I got it when I was in the hospital after Carmen was born, and then at Christmas, we got hit with the flu while visiting DH's family. I was the only healthy one and had to cook/clean in my MIL's kitchen, which is kind of a nightmare for me. That flu had everyone out for days and I don't want to experience something like that if I can prevent it. I think DH and I will both be getting it from now on.

  • I used to get them every year until I was old enough to put up a good fight for my parents...12ish? Then I never got one until I started ttc and have gotten one every year since, and will continue to for the babies sake.

  • I've never gotten it

  • Before my pregnancy I never got a flu shot. I guess I was raised to believe the less vaccines the better, since you could still technically get s different strain of the flu it was the one vaccine I didn't get. However, now that I a child and we are far more likely to get germs and stuff. I will be getting one, lost likely.

I got mine. I never used to because I'm a rebel, but since having Willa, I will now.

This exactly. I used to think it was for older people, babies or those who don't have a great immune system. I get it now as a parent.

  • I have skipped it for some years but gotten it in the years that I have been pregnant and will probably get it this year. The kids will definitely get it and my husband gets it through work every year. I've never gotten the flu, vax or not.

  • No way Jose. I have never gotten it and I haven't had the flu since childhood. DH has been in the military for 5ish years and has to get it. I worked in the clinic at our last base and can't tell you how many military members I saw coming in and out of there with the flu. It was ridiculous.

I think it is important to remember that the flu can be fatal. It's not just about throwing up and diarrhea and aches and chills. So even if you get another strain, you are partially protected by the vax and less likely to have it be so bad. And our babies need all the protection they can get so as their primary caregivers we need to be protected too.
This is the only argument that I need.

I also got sick right after I got my flu shot and I felt like hell but considering the alternative(s), I'll take my chances.

  • I used to usually get one, but I've been way more focused on it since having DD in 2009. That was the year of the H1N1 scare and DD was too young to vaccinate. Both of my kids got their shots last week and I'm getting mine tomorrow.

  • I will this year. I would get them at work if I was there when the buggy came around. I missed it last year since I was on maternity leave. I'll make more of an effort now though, since I have her. She will also be getting hers.

  • MH is allergic to eggs...so he can't get the flu shot.

The kids and I will get flu shots. D did get the flu two years in row after having the shot but I still believe the benefits outweigh the risks.

I have seen people who did not get the flu shot get the flu and was sick 2-3 weeks. D was only sick about 5 days both times and she was able to get Tamiflu because I caught it early.

he should still be able to receive the vaccine regarsdess of an egg allergy. New studies have ahown it doesn't pose a significant risk. he could also get the mist, which contains no egg protien.

  • I try to avoid getting needles stuck in me so even when my job offered it free I've never done it. I was going to get it last year when I was pregnant but the day I was going to ask my doctor is the day I got sent into l & d.

Now, I'm really considering getting it for DS after him being sick a gazillion times last year. Halp me make a decision!

    1) i didn't realize egg alergy = no flu shot.

    2) i didn't realize that was no longer true!

    3) my son gets VERY bad eczema whenever i eat eggs, but we haven't had him tested for allergies, because it's an obvious diet-related reaction. will have to talk to doc about this.

  • We are...no surprise....firmly in the "get it" camp.

Speaking of modern medicine, it is freaking amazing. I had a horrible skin rash after swimming in a lake last month. Kept washing it, putting hydrocortisone cream on it, etc. But it was so red and itchy and angry, that I finally went to my dermatologist. I showed her my back (it was all over my entire back at that point), and she immediately identified it as some kind of evil bacterial bug that lives in some kinds of water. Gave me basic amoxicillan, and it was gone within three days. Completely gone.

I looked up the bacteria on the google, and it turns out that sucker used to kill people, after lengthy illnesses as the bacteria slowly spread to more and more of the skin and then eventually to a person's internal organs.

It really hit me how now we just go the doctor, get a five day course of basic antibiotics for $4, and never think of it again--even though our ancestors might have died from the exact same thing after months of misery.

    Pretty cool stuff....

I got something similar from the the lake we camp at. That was so nasty!
