Bugs

What do you do for bug repellent? We are in FL and the mosquitos can be pretty unavoidable. Advice is appreciated as Off doesn't seem appropriate for baby skin.

Thanks ladies!

Re: Bugs

  • I use one of the battery operated ones that clips on my belt. I am usually holding her. If she is in her carrier, I clip it to the side. We are in Florida too

  • We used Baby Ganics bug repellant this summer when camping. I put LO in long sleeves, pants and socks at night and put a tiny bit on the back of her neck and back of sleeves (to avoid her being able to reach it with her hands and ingest). It worked well in combination with her bug net that we draped over the pack n' play or stroller when she was out of the tent. She got no bites during the week we camped.
  • I was spraying a blanket and putting her on it or over her stroller or whatever.
  • My family doctor recommended Avon skin so soft for LO this summer. We ended up just using a bug net and he was fine. Bug season's over for us now.
  • We live in Chicago and the mosquitoes have been BRUTAL this summer. LO ended up with 3 big bites on her face after a block party we went to so I ordered a bug net to put over her infant carrier and one for her pack n play. I make sure she is covered at dusk when they are the worst and I have used bug spray containing deet when I had no other choice to keep her from getting bitten. There were no ill effects. I just made sure to use the gentler "family" brand rather than the stronger oily-er cutter or off kind. Stupid skeeters!

  • Sullivan got two bites this week when we took his Grammy to the zoo. Poor kid's still welted up, I'm starting to worry that I may need to treat them. They don't seem to be bothering him but they haven't gone away.
  • Thank you for all the suggestions! Swatting at them and yelling, "stay away from my baby!" isn't going to cut it anymore.
