NBR: help with paint colors

I swear no matter what I do, I can never find the right paint colors. Its like I have an idea in my mind but it never pans out.
We have a two story entryway that leads into oir kitchen. Tell me your favorite paint colors for larger main living areas.

Favorite paint colors aside, I would choose a paint based on what coordinates with your furniture and other home decor.  I would also make sure that it doesn't clash with colors in other rooms, especially if you have an open layout floor plan.

Martha Stewart and Sherwin Williams have color family books where they will give you a whole selection of paint colors that are all meant to coordinate with each other.  Those are a great place to start.  I also get a lot of ideas off of Pinterest.

When we were painting our house, we purchased paint samples and poster board.  We painted a big piece of poster board and taped it to the wall, so we could get a better idea of how the paint looked at different times during the day and better visualize what the room would look like painted, before we invested in having any painting done.
