FFFC I don't even read posts about man colds anymore. My dh gets pissed because I don't catch ds' s colds even though I am with him all day and eat after him, and he gets pissed when he can't breathe but he has legit sinus issues. I spite ate the last piece of leftover pizza for breakfast at 7am.  I woke up expecting there to be 3 pieces left so we could all have it for lunch.  There was one because DH apparently ate the rest at 2am.  So I ate the last one just to keep him from taking it.

Kimbus, that would totally happen at our house, too. It is so annoying to open the box in the morning to find that one lonely slice.
Whole boxes of Triscuits have been known to disappear in the night here.

Krispy Kreme. You get one for just saying alright and a dozen if you're wearing a certain # of piratey things. Totally inferior to the little donut shop down on the boardwalk. But the price is right lol.

ETA Thanks a lot autocorrect - you have to say arrrgh! To get one.

I have toyed with the idea of buying some leggings and tunics, though.

  • I'm going to get flamed, but I thought I might give you an insight on how things work around here.

A while ago I posted about the mother of one of DD's classmates telling me she was sending her nanny to a playdate instead of coming herself. Some of you told me that I might hit it off with the nanny, and I said "maybe," but in reality I was thinking that I would have nothing to talk about with the nanny except the children and that would last about 10 minutes.

Not that I don't think that "class" (I don't know how to call it) gaps are insurmountable (I'm "friends" with my old nanny, my parents paid for her wedding and my mom was matron of honor and she comes to visit with her daughters once in a while), but it's  weird to think that one would just talk and talk with a nanny or a housekeeper like friends. I always treat them with respect and kindness, and I'm always a nice, caring and generous boss that also pays well (I think), but to be like "friends" is something else.

I have asked my housekeeper to stay later the day DD's friend is coming with her nanny so they can all play together (I'm also paying her more).

    How's that for flameworthy?

  • @diapersnwipes‌ I think that's why I gravitate towards leggings. Jeans, even if they fit me, still give me a horrible muffin top. I gained weight all over with my pregnancy, but the most was in my stomach. Once I drop the weight, I *may* start wearing something besides leggings. They are super comfortable after all.

So are you only friends with wealthy families? Do you not just meet random people while out and about and select based on their income? I'm not judging because it seems to be a cultural difference, I just can't wrap my head around it.

No, I have friends from different walks of life. But people who work in service are usually uneducated. In countries like mine there are huge gaps in education between people who have money and people who don't. I mean, no middle class family would send their children to a public school because they would learn nothing. Maybe they'd learn to read and write, but poorly.

  • One of my friends is a nanny.  She's a blast to hang out with.  If some snob thinks they're too good to hang out with her because of her career, their loss.

It's not because of her chosen career.

I don't care where you live or how you look at it. Your writing off a woman, you have never met BECAUSE she is a nanny aka uneducated.  that is snobby

You can look up the definition if you like.
Just because it is normal doesn't make it any less true.

I would say it's a bit prejudiced. I know how it may seem to you, but class/race barriers in countries like mine are greater than in the USA.

Seriously. All of this. @pevila if it's not based on her career, then what the hell is it based on?

You can break that barrier! It's ok to talk to a nanny.
I am a Latina as well. I'm not from Peru, but very similar gaps in class in my parents native country.
I've got a dear friend born and raised in Peru. She was from that lower class you don't dare hang out with. She's an educated woman living here in the states now. You'd be surprised how much you can have in common.

  • Just because there are class and race barriers that are the norm in your country doesn't mean that you can't break those. Or is your reputation to precious to be seen with a lowly nanny?

You know, this reminds me of when I was talking to my friend about something similar. What did you do at birth to be born into a higher class family? Nothing. It's all luck of the drawn. And if you were on the other side, you probably wouldn't like the way people treated you because of your education or job. Just because it's the norm right now, doesn't make it right. At all.

I don't see this as flameful at all. From what I've read and people I've met Peru has a very different culture than the US does and based on what I've seen this is fairly standard. It's not snobbery, it's a very different way of life and mindset.

I'll add that while I think most Americans try to claim differently the same type of self selection happens here every single day. Most of my closest circle has a similar level of education as I do and very similar goals and values. That's not because I snobbishly refuse to associate with anyone else, but because those are the people I tend to have the most in common with.
