TTC after 35

unintentional insensitivity (face palm moment)

Sometimes people are unintentionally insensitive. Here's what happened yesterday. It doesn't really bother me just made me shake my head and face palm metaphorically. My friend at work comes into my and my office as I was getting ready to leave. She is freaking out because she thinks she might be pregnant. She is ON THE PILL and took ONE pill about eight hours late. She felt nauseous so she has convinced herself she is pregnant. She already has two kids and has no plans on a third. She was about to POAS even though she is still over two weeks before AF. Now, don't get me wrong, I'd not have a problem if she got pregnant unintentionally and I would totally be there for her, but seriously? I really didn't need to hear this unless you truly knew you had an issue. Sigh

  • Ugh, sometimes people are too focused on themselves that they don't think of the way what they say affects others.

  • Ugh, about the same as my mom saying I hope you are ensuring there are no more.  Uhm, no mom we are doing all we can to ensure there are more.  Hugs to you!

Do we have the same mother? Everyone assumes we're done because we have a boy and a girl.

Isn't it amazing how we can do everything the books, dr's, experts, etc. tell us - yet other people can be completely oblivious to how baby making works other than the explanation you got in grade school that all it takes is having sex one time - and it works for them?

I'm guessing she took her pills too close together and that made her nauseous.

Anxious to start TTC #3 within the next year!

  • I'm in the same boat - I've been having people say a lot recently: "aren't you glad you decided not to have kids? they are such a pain!" Um, I've never made that decision nor said anything to you to infer that is what I think - WTH?
  • yikes @WinoGrrl yeah that's a rough comment to hear anytime, but especially if you are ttc
  • Yeah - I try to just ignore. DH and I got married late and I think the folks saying this sort of thing are trying to "make me feel better" about being so old. lol. Since we are just at the beginning of our TTC journey and not super frustrated and stressed out by it all right now I think I'm taking it better than I would if we were say 6 more months in with no success. If anyone says anything at that point I make no promises for my response.
  • @Winogrrl, ouch!  What a strange, presumptuous thing to say.

I get a decent amount of questions about when we can expect #2, as well.  I had a general talk with two of my most persistent co-workers about the surprising frequency of secondary fertility the other day, and even though we didn't talk about my situation in particular, they seem to have gotten the idea and backed off.

The weird thing is that sometimes it does work for them!  I have a friend who really did get pregnant because she missed taking one pill.  This was when we were in college, however.  Much more fertile days....

  • Saw her again today, she was nauseous because the new pill she was taking was raising her blood pressure.
