Hypothyroidism Question-Updated

So my RE did some blood work on me after hearing how sick I have been and they called back today saying my thyroid was very low. I have to go in tomorrow for more blood work. Does anyone else have any experience with this? I know it can be treated, but could this be why I feel sooo awful?

Yes, it's definitely why could could be feeling awful! I had gained so much weight, and was extremely tired all the time before my diagnosis. I'm still a little tired and don't have a lot of stamina, but now they treat my thyroid with a med. called nature throid. I lost some of the weight, and feel a little better but I suspect it was probably what caused my IF since my IF was diagnosed as unexplained. Have them also test your vitamin d and iron as well. Mine was low. Hope you get well soon!

I have hypothyroid (I can't tell if yours is hypo- or hyper- but I imagine there are similarities in treatment and symptoms.  My hypothyroid got worse after my BFP, which is pretty common.  I have a regular endocrinologist, and she adjusted my medication to my TSH level.  During pregnancy, I'll be seeing my endo- pretty regularly, about every 6 weeks, to check my TSH levels.

Thyroid conditions are easily treatable, but they can cause serious consequences for your pregnancy if ignored.  Definitely follow up with your doctor, and consider finding an endocrinologist if you haven't already.

Yup. I have mild hypothyroid. I'm always cold and have low energy and a slow metabolism when not treating it. I'm always on synthroid when cycling. Now that I'm pregnant, I have my thyroid levels checked once each trimester. Should it come back outside of the normal range they would adjust my dosage of medicine. It's good to know if you have it and easy to treat, so you're on the right track!

I know that not everyone reads the info that comes with meds but you should with levothyroxine or synthroid. There are foods to avoid and timing to keep in mind. I have been on meds for three years and I feel so much better. I used to be able to nap anywhere but no more!! My internal temperature has also evened out too. I used to have horrible swings from hot to cold. Hope you feel better soon.

I'm hypothyroid and have been getting regular blood tests throughout my pregnancy.  I think I was tested every 4 wks for through the first trimester and now am only checked every 6wks.  My meds were adjusted by 30% in the first trimester - my doctor says they can sometimes need to be doubled. 

Honestly it was hard for me to tell if it was my thyroid being out of whack or just normal morning sickness in the first trimester.  I did start feeling like I had more energy a few weeks after my dose was adjusted, so hopefully you'll feel better after your doctor gets you on the right meds.

I have hashimoto's (hypothyroid) and have been on levothyroxine for almost a year. When I first became pregnant my RE wanted to increase my dose but my reproductive immunologist was monitoring it every week and the numbers were good, so I didn't increase. I found out 2 weeks ago that my TSH was super low (hyperthyroid) and I was having crazy symptoms- heart palpitations, starving, sweating all the time, always in the bathroom- and they had to lower my dose of meds.

From what I've read going the other way is pretty rare- but kinda scary.

Thanks ladies! I hope they get it all figured out. I went and did more blood work this morning and they said I should know something Monday. I am not sure which level it is exactly, they just said it was low. The being cold thing is definitely happening to me, its like I have the flu.

I too have hypothyroidism and man what a difference you will feel once you get the meds sorted out! I will only add to make sure they check your b 12 levels too! Mine are low and I get a b12 shot every 4 weeks.

I'm late to party, but like Poohniki I am hypothyroid w Hashimotos. Mine has been for about 12 years and I am usually on 200mcg of Synthroid a day- my endocrinologist increased it to 250mcg a day and my morning sickness and other issues in first trimester haven't been as bad as first time w DD where I was unmonitored and just reg dose. First pregnancy I lost 36lbs bc of severe ms, this time about 5lbs. I do blood work every 5-6 weeks and she is trying to keep levels between .2-.3. I hope you feel better soon!

Oh gosh, that would be a great relief. I am still waiting to hear from them. If by 3 I haven't heard back, I will call.

I heard back yesterday evening. They said they were looking closer to normal now and they just want to monitor me. It's very confusing, but I trust my doctor.

I also read an article last night that said metformin can cause thyroid problems. Well I started coming off and took my last pill a couple of nights ago. I have actually started to feel better. Now if there any truth to this, I have no clue. Thanks for all the helpful comments!
