Daycare

If you just found out that your in home daycare didn't have her children fully vaccinated and, despite her telling you otherwise in the interview, hasn't been asking for proof of vaccines from the other children in her care - would you leave?

I am full on raging over this but need others to tell me if I am over reacting or not. I left my center because of sickness - asked the right questions in the interview process and find this out in a discussion over that crazy virus going around.

  • You said that her children where not fully vaccinated, so iam assuming they have some vaccinations. Are they on a delayed vaccine schedule?

    The fact that she lied about her children would make me want to leave.

    The fact that she lied about her children would make me want to leave.
    She said delayed -  but her child is a bit older than mine and he was done until 4 - outside of flu at his 18 month appointment. Her child turns 3 this month and she said she is missing quite a few. I was in shock at the moment and running late to work so I didn't question further. I was in shock because it is my belief that as a person running a daycare you should be up front about that, especially when asked point blank.

    Wait you said you were running late and didn't have a full conversation with her?  I'd approach her about it at pick up today and ask her what the deal is with her kids vaccinations and the other children attending (obviously not asking about each child individually, but overall).

    I wouldn't be upset if her or other kids are on a delayed schedule.  Also, I'm a bit confused by the bolded.  Her oldest who is now 4 is up to date on all vax but hasn't had the flu shot since 18 months?  I just want to make sure I'm following.
    No sorry - I wasn't clear here. My son is 2 and a half and he was fully vaxed on schedule (except for the flu shot which we have to make an annual apt for) at 18 months.  Her DD is turning 3 this month and she said "there are quite a few that she hasn't gotten yet" She also disclosed that she declined a lot of shots for her older school aged daughter but didn't say which ones. I looked at the clock at this moment and realized I was already late because we were talking and excused myself. I will ask her further questions at pick up but to me delayed wouldn't be that delayed - the people I know who delay only do it to space out getting them all at once - not by months at a time - or am i getting this wrong?

  • The lying is the worst deal breaker. I would be concerned with what else she may be withholding. I would, however, be concerned over the non-vaxing if my child were younger and hadn't had the full course. My DCP only allows non-vaxed children if they have a true medical exemption signed by a physician.

    About me  2007: Started TTC. 2008: OB prescribed clomid, went to RE and was Dx with PCOS. 2009: IUI #1 w/follitsim and trigger = BFP. B/G Twins born at 33 weeks. 2012: TTC #3, Round 2 of Letrozole w/TI = BFP, missed m/c at 8 1/2 wks. Currently on the bench as we make plans for a new home. Anxious to start TTC #3 within the next year!

  • My first reaction was "Hell no, I'd be gone."  Then I read your follow ups and I have questions before I give my answer. First, you need to talk to her about her own child's vaccine schedule.  Delayed isn't the same as unvaxed so you need to understand which bucket she's in.   The second thing is, how did you find out she isn't asking for vaccine records from the other kids?  Maybe you said it but I'm not seeing it.

    Leave and report it to the County if they are licensed through them.  In our county, you have to have vac records as part of your license.

    ETA- If they were on a delayed schedule, they should have been upfront about that.  The lying is the issue here b/c if they are lying to you they might have lied to the licensing agency.
