Happy but terrified

I am 44 and just found out I'm pregnant. The doc had told me it would be a miracle if I got pregnant without any intervention, and even then it would be really difficult. Guess he'll be surprised! But now that I am and I'm no spring chicken (and neither are my eggs), I'm really worried that something's going to go wrong. Has anyone out there had healthy pregnancy and baby at 44?

I am 43 and all is well with my pregnancy, however, I know exactly where you are in your head. I was diagnosed with POF and told that my best bet would be donor egg. So when you get pregnant with your own eggs, it makes you worry that the pregnancy won't be viable because the eggs you do have left are 'rotten'. Ugh...awful mind games I play with myself!!

Only time and doctors confirmation will ease your worry. I have had several tests since I was 4 weeks along that helped, however between each test I still worried that something awful would happen (I've had several losses too, though, so my fears were amplified by that).

I demanded my doctor to run HCG testing every 2-3 days for the 1st week, then I waited a week after that to test HCG again. At that point my HCG was high enough that a baby can be seen on U/S, so I had one done (around 6weeks). This helped me during those first few weeks. Then the worry that some abnormality would end in miscarriage kicked in and that didn't ease until 12 weeks when i got the results of my MaterniT21 test.

All that said, there are alot of women that have healthy pregnancies with their own eggs, well into their 40's.

I hope my message doesn't worry you more. I only wanted to let you know you're not alone, at all, in your fears. We ALL have them!

First-- congrats!

Secondly-- an encouraging story: My cousin had a baby at 45, and her pregnancy was fine. She did have to go on bedrest the last 3 weeks of it, but other than that, all was great.

Congrats and welcome! Try not to worry. My grandmother had my mom and her twin sister at 42 way back in 1955. I work with a lady that had her last at 43 and the wife of a guy I work with had her last at 54!!

My OB's NP told me that her sister is 43 and currently pregnant, they just had a lady give birth in the system 3 weeks ago at 50 and they have another one currently in the system that is 55. YIKES!

Lots of old ladies here having babies... :-)
