I'm iffy about hand me downs. With my daughter (my first) it seemed like EVERYONE wanted to give me their old stuff. I come from a large family where my daughter was the first grandchild on both sides so as you can imagine, we were very fortunate as far as baby supplies went. I hadn't had my shower yet, but graciously accepted and picked through clothes. Many were dingy, worn out, or smelled like cigarettes so I wound up donating/throwing away most of them. I also am known by f&f as a "bargain fashionista" so I was pretty prepared to purchase my own baby clothes. I am TOTALLY not opposed to hand me down equipment though. You can wipe that stuff down and have disinfected, like new items for minimum cost. We also have some really cute "consignment boutiques" around me. The clothes are gently used and always smell good. I have gotten many good deals there, so if you have one of those by you, check them out!
So I am afraid of bed bugs. They are making a huge reappearance. They get into everything and they survive the wash. They don't survive the dryer but they can live in your washing machine. Once you get them getting rid of them is just so hard. Hand me downs from people I don't know. ..yuck.
