C-Section Recovery Time

So I'm starting to get really frustrated with this whole recovery process. I'll be 5 weeks pp tomorrow and can't even imagine exercising next week like I had planned to once I was cleared. Every time I so much as stand for an extended period of time, my legs get this numb uncomfortable feeling and I'm sore for a few days after.

How far out is everyone from their c-sections and where are you at activity wise?
I'm being featured in a new pregnancy/motherhood blog during the month of October, so if you ever wanted to know more about my pregnancy, birth, and motherhood experiences than anyone ever should, check out my posts in the link below! :)

Re: C-Section Recovery Time

  • I'm 8 weeks out and have been walking for exercise since my 4 week pp appointment. I had a very easy recovery this time.

Legs going numb doesn't sound normal to me. Have you mentioned this to your OB?

I'm 5 weeks PP and had a great recovery despite some issues with my epi and a previous nerve block in my right leg. Some tummy soreness like light cramps occasionally but walking and doing normal things has been easy since 2 weeks PP.
I'd say talk to your doc as soon as possible, numbness in legs is not something to mess with especially with a LO.
  • I will be 5 weeks PP Friday and have been mostly pain free since 2 weeks; been walking a mile with no issue. I feel ready to start pushing it more. I would definitely look into the numbness.

  • I only have mild numbness just above my incision site at 3 weeks PP. Doc told me I could be mildly active but to listen to my body. I am not sure I could walk too far or too fast at this point without soreness at the end of the day but I have a ways to go until 5-6 weeks. I would definitely talk to your doc about the numbness you are experiencing in your legs.
  • 5 weeks and feeling pretty good. Just too lazy and exhausted to really want to do anything.

  • I'm 4 weeks out today and I'm still sore around the incision site, inside and out. If I do too much, then the pain jumps up, but it's always localized right around the incision site or my right hip. Even so, I can't imagine exercising.

Numbness in you legs doesn't sound like c/s as much as maybe from the spinal/epidural?

  • I am 4w pp as of yesterday. I feel pretty good doing normal daily things but I don't feel up to exercising and don't see myself being ready to exercise for at least a few more weeks.

Are your legs just tingly from exhaustion or actually numb? Numb deserves a call to your OB.

It's hard to describe the feeling, but I'd say it's more tingly from exhaustion. It happens when I've exerted myself more than usual.

  • I'm 4weeks PP. I'd say I'm 95% back to normal. I've been going on long walks since 1.5 weeks. I've been driving since the beginning of week 2, plus carrying DS2 in his infant seat. I started lifting my toddler carefully at the end of week 2. So basically, I've been super naughty and my doctors would probably kill me. I will say, I was in excellent physical shape before and during pregnancy and I really believe it led to me having such easy/quick recoveries both times. The only thing I'm actually following orders on is waiting six weeks to ride my horses. 2 weeks to go!!!
  • I'm 3 weeks PP today. The first 10 days were really rough for me. I'm still very much sore around my incision and can tell when I overdo it but am feeling pretty good otherwise. I try to go for a short walk with DS and the dog everyday but still have not been on any major outings. The only place I have taken him myself is his 2 week appointment but I'm still nervous going out with him alone and lifting stroller/ carseat in and out. Can't wait to get back to yoga and hopefully sign up for some mommy & me classes :)

  • I'm 5 weeks PP and I'm feeling pretty good. I'm still sore around the incision and if I overdo it I feel like I did a bunch of sit ups. I go for walks every day, around 1 mile, and don't feel anything. I pick up the car seat in her in it, which I'm not supposed to do until next week but I don't have much choice so I'm doing it anyway. That does hurt the incision a bit. Sometime I get cramps too, especially if DD is laying on me and putting pressure where the incision is.
