Sunbathing

Hi, this is my first pregnancy, I've just finished a weeks holiday in the sun approx 28 a day and I'm 13 weeks tomorrow: I've only just read on line how dangerous sunbathing can be. In sunbathed each day but I have been in the water to cool down whenever I've felt too hot and I have covered my stomach when it's felt hot too: should I be worried? Has anyone else sunbathed for a week at this stage of pregnancy?

Re: Sunbathing

  • Short answer, did you bake your baby like a potato? NO, and throwing a towel over your belly wouldn't have changed any of that.
But you did damage YOUR skin and put yourself at risk for melanoma and other nasty skin cancers.
I am also insanely jealous that you were able to spend that much time in the sun without getting a horrible blistering and painful burn that leaves scars.

  • Did she not mean 28 degrees Celsius maybe? Otherwise I'm lost...
  • I thought 28C as well.
  • You just now learned how bad the sun can be for you?

    *facepalm*

The sun is the best source of Vitamin D and warmth. Other than that, it doesn't have much going for it.

  • I assume you're asking about whether being overheated possibly hurt the baby, right?  I mean, any damage done to your skin from sun over-exposure obviously wouldn't hurt the baby, just you.  If the "28" reference means 28 degrees Celcius, Google tells me this is approximately 82-83 degrees Fahrenheit.  No big deal.  As for the baby, as long as you stayed hydrated and felt fine, I'm sure baby is fine.  As for you, I hope you wore sunscreen.
