I just talked to my husband about this. I'm going to hold off until my first prenatal appointment so I can talk to my OB. I've always had an adverse reaction to flu shots so I stopped getting them in my late teens. There's also a good chance I already had the flu in August. Guess we'll see what the doc says...
Wasnt trying to start contoversy. They are offering them in work today so i was curious. I think ill ask my ob next week
lol it wasn't directed at you. it's just that we are going to have a lot of these posts over the next 6 months. Talk with your Dr. , you are just the first one I've seen. There will be a lot of "battles" over a lot of hot topics, so some of us like to keep it light
I will not be getting one, but I'll do my best with other best practices to stay healthy

I was in for my first appt yesterday and my dr did recommend I get one, she also said they have a special one at the obgyn for pregnant women? She also recommend my husband get one as well... So I will be getting that!
I work at a hospital which almost ultimately requires it however I'm only 6 weeks along so I think I will wait until my 10 week appointment to double check with my ob just to make sure now is a good time. I get mine every year.
I have to for work (pediatric hospital) and I'm sure I'll get it at my first appointment. I don't mess around with the flu. I've only had it maybe twice in my life and I don't care to repeat it.
If you are getting it tell them you are pregnabt so they get you the right one. I will get one as I had the flu last year and have never been so sick in my life. After a werk in bed I was seriously wondering if I would recover.
I believe that the last time I was pregnant, my OB said that getting a flu shot also helped when baby comes out (DD was a January baby) that it's like giving LO a shot. That is probably a little irrelevant for a May baby. I only get a flu shot when I'm pregnant.
@Sterling13 That's interesting that your CVS/Walgreens carry flu shots for infants. Around here none of them will do any sorts of vaccines until 18 months!
I'll be getting it but around here (rural Canada) the doctors office won't receive it until early November so I'll have to wait. As PPs have said it is highly recommended for pregnant woman and people with young children at home since the flu can be deadly for those groups.

I will be getting one, reluctantly. I'm terrified of needles and I usually avoid getting the flu shot, but I know how important it is. I got really excited when I saw that my insurance offered the nasal vaccine (You just have to inhale it), but then got bummed when I saw that pregnant women can't have those because the nasal ones are active viruses. BOO. But yes, I will put on my big girl pants and get the flu shot to protect my LO.

I was wondering about the nasal one. That's a bummer. Isn't there a tiny needle one too?
"Everybody here has got a story to tell. Everybody's been through their own hell. There's nothing too special about getting hurt, but getting over it that takes the work. Because one way or another, we all need each other. Nothing's going to turn out the way you thought it would. Friends and lovers, don't you duck and cover because everything comes out the way it should in the end." -Glen Phillips, "Duck and Cover"
I'm getting it! And so is my DH and DS. My son and I got it last year too, but my husband declined. I have never seen a human so sick as he was. He won't be making that mistake again.
I will be getting it as will everyone in my household and however many peers I can drag to the public flu shot event I am organizing! People have many misconceptions about influenza and the flu shot and so herd immunity is never really adequately established which is why it is important to get your shot to protect yourself. Even in a 'bad match' year you get some protection because of similarities in the antigen structures.
On a more personal level, my son was severely, severely ill (hospitalized) due to secondary pneumonia from influenza. I am very grateful to everyone who reduces their chances of getting (thus transmitting!) influenza because it can be a very dangerous illness even in healthy kids (and pregnant women!)

I'm a nurse in a mother infant unit so we are required to get one every year. I had some doubts about it's safety but I'm glad to see that a lot of other women are getting it!
I went to a flu shot clinic at my work and told the nurse I was pregnant. He said that he wouldn't give it to me unless I checked with my doctor if it was ok to expose the baby to thimerisal which is a mercury containing preservative. I called my doc and she said she said I should get one without Thimerisal. Fortunately, DH's work has a clinic with preservitave free shots.
I just went to local CVS and they told me they use the regular shot on pregnant ladies. I explained that there are supposed to be two, one is safe one isn't. They said they only have one and had never heard of this? They asked me where I heard it and told them my RE, my obgyn and every other pregnabt lady I know lol. Maybe what they have is the safe version but they should know there is a difference.
