TTC after 35

Touching base, ongoing health saga

Hi everyone, thought I'd drop in and say hi, as I haven't been too active around here lately.

So I was happily getting healthy in order to lose weight before TTC again. Getting my iron levels up and all of that sensible stuff.

Then 6 weeks ago I started getting weakness in my legs and arms. I had blurred vision, and later some numbness and tingling in my face.

So my Dr tested my blood for all sorts of things. Prescribed a muscle relaxant, has me on B12 injections. I saw an eye specialist on the weekend, and a neurologist yesterday. The neurologist had me do blood tests for celiac disease, my thyroid levels and other stuff I didn't really catch. I have an MRI scan booked for Monday.

My Dr. suggested things like brain tumours and multiple sclerosis. I've been suggesting things like pinched nerves and anxiety or stress(you know the kinds of things you can treat with lifestyle changes and minor medication rather than chemotherapy and brain surgery)

The neurologist is thinking it's not MS, at this stage, but is waiting on the scan and blood tests.

So it's a game of, "wait and see" and it could be something really serious or nothing at all that clears up all on its own.

So I'm frustrated but really focused on living healthily because I figure good health will help me with any long term diagnosis, and if it turns out to be nothing then I'll be glad to be in the best health I can be to re-focus on TTC.

Anyway, I do keep reading the goings on here, and you I wishing the best for you all.

Re: Touching base, ongoing health saga

  • So sorry you are going through all this. I hope it is just stress/anxiety. That can do a number on the body, my husband went through it.
I say have every test they suggest so you can rule out the other stuff. If it is anxiety there are ways to deal with that with therapy or a medication.
My prayers will be with you.

  • Oh my....that's a lot of stress and worry. I will be thinking of you, and hoping everything turns out okay. ((((bigs hugs from Ohio))))
  • I hope you get answers/results soon and can begin treatment with a wonderful result.  Best wishes!
  • I had that happen and it did turn out to be 3 or 4 screwed up vertebrae. I was convinced it was MS (because I always jump to "OMG I'm dying" instead of being logical). Anyway, don't panic because it could totally be something that is treatable with lifestyle changes. I hope they get you answers soon. I know that is nerve racking.

My mom had similar symptoms and she went through all the tests and they were just about to diagnose her as having MS but they realized that the various medications she was on, coupled with her acid reflux was causing a lot of the symptoms.

Hopefully you and your doctor(s) figure something out soon!
  • I'm so sorry you're going through this.  Thinking of you and hoping you get good news!

  • I hope there is nothing serious and you are feeling tip top soon. You are missed around here.
  • Hi ladies,
thanks for all the support and well wishes, it really helps.
@meredithcarole I always jump to, "I must be dying" as well. So I was googling motor neuron's disease and all sorts of things.

@hooligans4 when I suggested anxiety to my Dr. he agreed that anxiety can present in all the ways I have symptoms, but then he went on to say how calm I am. The neurologist (who's known me for 30 minutes) also said, "oh but you're so cool and calm." Which is far from the truth, I just have a very calm exterior.

But yes it is best to get all the testing done regardless, so that we have a full picture and then go from there.

  • Sorry to hear you going through this, but also wanted to say HI! I remember you from attachment parenting and I think it is fun (tragic?) that we meet again here. I think our first little ones are similar in age :-) You are in New Zealand right? I moved to Sweden 2.5 years ago and everything went downhill from there... Hope you figure out what's wrong and get that BFP soon :-)
