Premie struggles

So I know I'm not one active member, I don't have a lot of time, but I do love to read all of the posts that I can. Anyways I had my DD 6 1/2 weeks early. She's a week old now and doing great with just being in an incubator and learning to feed on her own. She was 3 pounds 7 oz. at birth. Jayla is very strong but it's not an easy road. Being an hour and a half away from home and not being able to be with your baby all the time is hard. So the main reason for this post is really just for anyone else out there to share any early baby stories and help out... It feels as if every day goes by slower and slower. How do you cope?

Re: Premie struggles

  • Congratulations and great to hear that Jayla is growing stronger everyday. We do have a few preemie mothers on the board, and you may also want to visit the preemie board.

  • My 2 DDs weren't early but were in the NICU. The second time around I found out they had some rooms so you could stay with your LO. I know all hospitals are different but it can't hurt to ask. Being able to stay with her most days made things a lot easier for me. ( and I'm only maybe 15 minutes from our hospital.) I just packed a bag and some food. Since eating out gets expensive.

  • Our twins were 6 weeks early, and spent 13 days in the NICU. They have been home for about 2 weeks now, but I hear you about things being really hard. Just know that any little thing you're doing is helping Jayla get stronger and closer to home. Hang in there and I pray that she'll be home soon!

  • Congratulations :) So glad to hear that she is getting stronger! I was put on bed rest last week at 35 weeks because I am 1cm dilated and 80-90% effaced (was having mild cramps). My little one could come any day now. Midwife thought she would come by last weekend, but she's sticking in there! I don't have any preemie stories (yet) but wish you all the best. I was told by my midwife that there are rooms at the hospital where I could stay with the baby if she will need to stay at the hospital. Best wishes to you, and I hope she gets big and strong!
