Update on 3 year old evals

Hi, I'm back for an update on my son's evals. We were concerned he might have aspergers or sensory/ADHD. Through our school district we have had the following evals so far: PT, Cognitive, OT. We have structure eval in his preschool program tomorrow and our meeting Oct 1st. His PT came back at moderate delay, cognitive I don't know actual results but they seemed to think he was really smart and having social issues possibly based on that. OT she said -1.60 I believe I'm not sure exactly what that means but said he needs work with grasp and a little attention. We have sped up the process because his preschool teachers are having a really tough time with him and they think he is a safety issue with the other kids. He's really aggressive pushing and hitting, won't sit still, destroys things and tries to leave the classroom. He actually got sent home yesterday. From the evals we have had so far it sounds like he isn't going to qualify the way the evaluators were kinda wishy washy on it. Has anyone had luck with the classroom eval being the thing that tips the scale in your favor? Also, if anyone can tell me what the OT score meant that would be great.

In MD EI won't tell you they qualify (for preschool) until you are in e IEP room. I think it is super dumb for the kids with obvious stuff.

You can always tell EI in the IEP room you are pulling him out of preschool becasue of behaviors.

The teachers said they would go on speaker phone for us during the meeting to help us out too.
    Edit: preschool teachers

At 3 you may have to seek a private eval by a Dev. ped. Schools can hesitate to give a diagnosis since it can mean more services. I have a friend dealing with this right now, being around her son regularly there is no way he isn't on the spectrum, delayed speech, poor eye contact, little to no social interaction, etc but the school system is just saying he has fine motor and speech delays, so she is really frustrated since she feels he is on the spectrum and wants him to get appropriate services.

  • The number they gave you relates to how many standard deviations from typical development your child is-- the negative means he is on the side of the bell curve that means he is behind in that area.  This is why he qualified for OT service.

***Total side note-- your kids look A LOT like mine.  I have a boy that just turned 4 and he looks like your son and I have a 17 month old daughter that has the same short hair (still hasn't grown LOL) as your daughter.  You can kinda see him in my avitar... I am weird about not posting any pics-- so you will have to take my word for it
    ;)

  • I'm waiting to respond with an update when I talk to the psych who observed him yesterday. The teacher said he had a rough day so hopefully she saw all the behavior issues.

  • Just spoke with her. Of course she can't tell me much but she did say she saw what we discussed so that's good. @-auntie-‌ I would love for him to get in an intergrated classroom. I'm mobile and it is being a real PITA. I have a referral to dev pedi and that is my next step.
