Trouble TTC

Saying hello. :)

Hello ladies and possibly very rare gentlemen,

I've been lurking for a little bit and decided that I should actually introduce myself.  It'll be nice to have people to talk to who are in similar boats.

My partner and I are both 35 years old.  We'll be celebrating our 5th wedding anniversary later this month.  We went off contraception three years ago thinking that we'd just get pregnant sooner or later if we weren't actively preventing it from happening.  When that didn't work, a little bit over a year ago we decided to get "serious" about this procreation thing.  We started timing intercourse, using ovulation prediction kits, temping and what not, but no baby happened.  We began seeing a fertility specialist a little while ago.

He did an ultrasound, and found a couple of very tiny cysts in one of my ovaries, which he didn't seem too anxious about.  Then he did an HSG (ouch), which showed what might be several polyps in my uterus and some thickening of part of my uterine wall which might be endometriosis.

At that point, I started getting nervous.  I'm 35, but I always thought I was a healthy 35 outside of some trouble with asthma.  All my pelvic exams and pap smears and everything have been normal up until now.  My BMI has always been in the "healthy" range.  I don't smoke or drink to excess or eat junk.  As far as I know, I've never had a radioactive spider bite.  I wasn't expecting them to actually find something wrong with me-- I was more expecting they'd tell my husband that his little swimmers were lopsided from drinking too much soda or something like that.

We're trying a round of Clomid this month (which makes me nervous, having read about it, but at least they prescribed a low dose), and my husband is having a sperm analysis just to make sure his little guys aren't contributing to the problem.  We're scheduled for another appointment with the doctor next week, and I'll be having another ultrasound shortly after that.

Sorry for the novel. ;)  Nice to meet you.

Re: Saying hello. :)

  • Welcome to 3T!  Is your fertility specialist a reproductive endocrinologist (RE)?
    Me: 34 | He: 40
    TTC since 08/2012
    DX: DOR

  • Welcome. Same question, are you seeing an RE? Are you taking the Clomid before you get a SA? A word of advice, if you're not already, make sure you're seeing an RE and are being monitored on Clomid. Also, I wouldn't take Clomid until after the SA, it could be a waste. Good luck, this is a great place for support!

  • The results from the SA *should* be back very soon if they aren't already, but I did start the Clomid already-- I hope it doesn't end up being wasteful. :/

Both of the doctors at the clinic are REs and they had pretty good reviews online, so I hope that I made the right choice in that regard.  There were several clinics nearby, so I wound up picking one based on the experiences of other people and snooping around the Internet.

  • Welcome! I am new too. I am also on my first round of clomid 100mg after 2 failed rounds with femara. I haven't noticed any of the horrible SE from clomid, as of yet, so hopefully you will be a lucky one too!

  • So sorry that you had some unexpected bad news. Hopefully the knowledge will help your doctor get you guys KU that much faster! Just goes to show that IF is a really unfair thing. You've made healthy choices and still have to deal with this. I'm so sorry about that, just know it's not your fault!

  • I second everything PP have said about your Dx and SA. Your RE may have put the cart before the horse on this. I would ask for clarification or reasoning behind the decision to move forward in a seemingly premature manner. Also, are you being completely monitored? I do hope this works out for you! Welcome to the board!

Are you from the Northwest? (looking at your screen name)
