TTC after 35

RE Question

Hi All,

Newbie with a question, I searched the boards but didn’t see an answer… I mentioned in my intro that my DH and I had been seen by an RE before we relocated, we’ve found a new RE where we live now. The new patient coordinator in the new RE office seemed surprised that DH had not had an SA. Is that odd, that DH has not had an SA done?  Should be it be something we push for, DH is fine with having it done.

Re: RE Question

  • I think having the SA done is pretty fundamental.  It only makes sense to verify that all's well with him before doing too much tinkering with you.  Even though you have been able to get pregnant in the past, I'd request the SA.  The more information you have, the better!  Plus, I don't know how you're covering everything, but my insurance wouldn't cover my treatments with the RE without one.

    Good luck!

  • I agree with @Davie813‌. They have to know which patient they really need to work on since it takes two to tango! Our SA was not covered but it was only around $100.

  • I agree with PP, SA is one of the most basic tests and I'm shocked that a RE would treat you without those results.

  • Thank you, I just wanted to make sure asking/requesting one was not out of line. I'm also glad to hear it wasn't pricey, our new insurance only covers the doctor appointments.
  • Did you have an HSG done?
  • Yes, I had a HSG, tons of blood work, pelvic MRI and a Sonohysterography, I believe that was the name of test. Sonohysterography was done by my OB/GYN after she disagreed with what that RE said. Turns out my OB/GYN was correct, her results matched those from MRI. We are not particularly happy with our old RE but he was the only one covered by our insurance.

  • We had an initial appointment and then RE ordered the labwork for me and SA for DH to be done before our next consultation (the same day as my HSG).  Due to DH's work schedule he had to provide the sample at home and I had to drive it to the lab...with the cup in my cleavage to keep it warm.  (dr's recommendation, thank goodness I did not get pulled over that morning)  Good luck to you, sounds like your new RE is on the right track.
