Pumped Milk & Travel

Sorry if this has been asked before..I searched and could not find the details I wanted. I'm leaving for a business trip tonight for the first time overnight away from LO :(  Already anxious about this, but I know she is in good hands with her dad. Anyway, my question is for those of you BFing who have flown, I don't think the 3 oz. liquid limit applies for breastmilk correct? Also, my main concern is how I'm going to keep it cold on the way back. The flight is only about 2 hours, but should I just use an insulated bag and ice packs maybe? Thanks for any help/tips!!!!!

Re: Pumped Milk & Travel

  • You can take up to 4oz bottles and they won't mess with it. But you can also take more than 4 and they will test it. So keep the bottles 4 and under and you will be good. Have a nice trip

There's no limit. You can take frozen ice packs through security or bring ziplock bags and get ice from a food vendor once you're through security. I traveled a lot with pumped milk if you have any other questions. It's a total PITA, but better than dumping it.

  • Just don't try to take loose ice through security. I got yelled at for that before when I didn't have an ice pack. They ultimately let me keep it, but not after a lecture and making me feel like a criminal.

  • Thanks ladies!!! Ice packs it is :)
  • I flew with about 30 oz of pumped milk in July. I labeled my bags, 3 and 4 oz. all of the 4 oz bags they opened and held a test strip over them to ensure they didn't give off explosive residue. So painful and time consuming. Note to self: label all bags 3 oz!
