  • I chose the first one, but he pushes buttons and every once in a while won't listen when I tell him not to do something.

  • I ask this because I'm really struggling with LO listening when I tell her not to something.II've tried No, don't do that, lets do this instead etc and she hears me but repeats behavior. The worst is her going after the dogs' food...yep...she doesn't it bc we always stop her but she just keeps trying.

  • I said that he does understand no, but then does it anyway, but that's not true *all* of the time.  There are a scant few couple things, like picking up dog poop in the yard, that he actually seems to listen to "no" about ... why, I don't know, but I'll take it!

  • She hears me, stops for a second, then looks back at me with an evil grin and does it again.

us too. And she's so darn cute doing it. I really have to try hard not to smile or laugh

  • He definitely understands what no means and sometimes he will stop what he is doing and other times he just smiles and keeps on misbehaving,

I generally try to save "no!" for times when she is doing something dangerous or especially devious. She understands, but responds better with redirection. I had to learn that after trying "no", and it started losing power and some bumpies gave some great advice about redirection. It makes sense because they don't fully understand why they "can't do" certain things at this age.

eta: part of the reason I know she understands is that sometimes I'll catch her doing something she's not supposed to do, and she will look up at see me and say "no!" and stop doing it. Can't be mad at that.

  • He's getting there. I'm sure he knows he's not supposed to, but he does it anyway, with a smile.

He likes to get in my cabinet under the sink. We've got a baby lock on it, but he can open it anyway. I'll be cooking, he'll come in...Open the cabinet and turn to look at me and smile.
I'll go after him and he gets in there to touch something as fast as he can! Little Turkey butt! :)

This as well. He is a kid so of curse he's going to test boundaries and battle wills.

  • I'm not sure. I don't say it that often, and usually I'm saying no while removing the object/her so I don't really get a chance to see if she would stop on her own. She does do the thing where she shakes her head and says "no" when she is about to do something she shouldn't. So cute (and frustrating).

  • SS: He understands no but often chooses to ignore us and do it anyway. Also, we do try to avoid saying no and redirect instead, but quite often forget and say no anyway.
