Hi, new here introduction

My partner and I live in Southern California and have just recently started talking about trying to conceive.  We met in college and have been together for over 10 years.  We were married back on the east coast (where we met and where I'm from) last August.  We've been doing some research online but still feel like there is lots to learn.  Any tips, suggestions, sites/book recommendations, So Cal resources, would be most welcome.

Thanks in advance and we look forward to getting to 'know' you all more!

  • Welcome! I second Taking Charge if Your Fertility even if you go immediately the RE route. I never did any at-home cycles and I still thought the book was extremely helpful in understanding my cycle. I though it was amazing and a little sad how much I didn't know about my own body when i first TTC!

    Best of luck to you!

  • Welcome! PP's recommendation for Taking Charge of Your Fertility is an excellent resource, as well as tracking your BBT and charting on fertilityfriend.com or something similar.  Best of luck to you both!!

  • Welcome! I agree with PP on Taking Charge of Your Fertility. That being said we did go the RE route, however it was good to chart my cycles for several months before starting TTC- that way I found out about my luteal phase defect. We are in So Cal. What insurance do you have? If, like many people here, you have Kaiser, some RE expenses may be covered partially. Even if you don't have kaiser, check with insurance to see what's covered. I'm not sure what your sperm situation is but we used CA Cryobank. It's located in Westwood and it was easy for us to pick up and drop off the tanks, saving us the delivery and pick up costs. Every little bit helps. Good luck on your journey to motherhood!

After 10 months of ttc via medicated IUIs and two early losses, we finally got our boys- Perfect premie twins born 5/27/14.

  • Hello and Welcome :-h

This is definitely a great place to hang out, get tips, vent, celebrate and commiserate (hopefully as little of the latter as possible for you)  The ladies here are so lovely and supportive.

We went the DIY route and mainly used 'Dr.' Google but we found the beginning chapters of the Ultimate Guide to Pregnancy for Lesbians' by Rachel Pepper to be very informative and accessible (and enjoyable)

    Best of Luck to you
