Toddlers: 24 Months+

Mamas of two, please come in!

Hi everyone.  I have a 2.5 year old DD and I'm expecting LO #2 in February (we find out the sex tomorrow, I'm nervous).

Anyway, I'm looking online for double strollers. DH and I have decided we'd like to get a jogger because it will be easier to maneuver at the various antique markets and outdoor events we go to throughout the year - our umbrella stroller gets stuck on all the little rocks and stuff.

Is there no such thing as a front-back jogging stroller (as opposed to the kids sitting side by side)?  I can't find one on any website.  The side by sides are just too wide for our liking and again, difficult to maneuver at the events and even stores.  I've noticed most department stores space things just enough for a single stroller or a wheelchair and not much else.

Recommendations are very welcome!

  • You might be able to use the city mini double.  It's fairly narrow and I think it can handle light jogging (but probably not trail running).  Should be fine on gravel at flea markets.

  • I have never seen one that was front back.  We had the grand safari double jogger and I didn't particularly care for it.  It was so heavy I couldn't get it in and out of my car by myself.  We switched to a sit and stand and I find that is much easier for us.  However, until DS was about 6 months or so I always wore him in a carrier and put DD in a single stroller.  I found that easier.
  • Thanks for the feedback.  I didn't realize this was a tall order, I just thought I was looking in the wrong places.  Hmm.

I found one on Amazon but the only color it comes in is BRIGHT orange.  I guess everyone will see us, and that's not a bad thing lol

  • We have the City Mini double. I LOVE it. I've never had trouble fitting it into any doorway.   It's not meant to be a jogging stroller, but we go for walks frequently and I think it could be used for neighborhood jogging.  The downside for me is it can be awkward to unfold, but it folds up pretty easily. DH dislikes that you have to buy cupholders, etc., separately. But, if it had those features built in it wouldn't fold as easily.  Many of my friends have the double BOB, and those are great for outdoor use, but I wouldn't take a stroller that big to a mall or whatever. The City Mini is good for indoor and light outdoor use.  It probably depends on what you will be using it for.  My SIL has the Britax-B Agile double and likes that one, too.
  • We have the Phil and Teds Navigator w doubles kit. Front-back jogger. LOVE it.

  • Thanks ladies!  I'll see what else I can come up with!  I'll check out the City Mini, that Phil & Ted one is a wee bit out of my price range!

  • I saw that Phil and Ted stroller at our state fair---I was watching to see what everyone was using for double strollers--anyway, it looked like a tight fit for the older child.  I felt like there was no way in hell my 2 year old would want to sit behind and not see anything.  Or vice versa when the older on sits up top I think my younger one would be pissed.  I waited to buy a double because I wasn't sure what our needs would be and boy am I glad.  I think we will end up with a sit-n-stand because it offers both a seated option and the option for the older child to stand or sit on bench.  I have a Bob single and LOVE that stroller so I was really wanting a jogger but in the end I don't think it will work for my two.

  • The Phil and Ted is closest to what you're looking for but yeah it's pricey as hell.  For an even cheaper alternative to the City Mini we have the Joovy side by side double.  It's not bad for $225.00.  It does fit through all doors if not a little tight.   I hated my sit and stand because my 4 year old slumps down on the stand part and can't nap in it.  Also ours didn't have a canopy so it was worthless in the heat.

We love our joovy because both sides recline independently and the canopy is great.

  • With kids almost 3yrs apart, I won't spend a lot on a double stroller. My almost 3yr old hates riding in the stroller so you may not get much use. I would get a sit n stand or add a glider board to a single stroller or put the baby in a carrier like PP mentioned.

  • We have the City Mini GT double. I love it. But DD, who turned 2 in July, will almost never ride in it. And I prefer keeping the 5 mo old in the Ergo. Btw, Joovy has phenomenally great customer service. I recommend their products because of that.
  • Thanks for all this info!

DD really hated being in the carrier I have but I'm thinking of trying a sling for the new baby rather than buying a new stroller.  It's a $50-60 dollar gamble rather than a couple hundred bucks on a double stroller we might hate.

Anybody want to recommend their slings? lol

  • I wore DS in the moby and kept DD in the stroller for quite a few months.  It was only $40 I think.  It's quite easy once you get the hang of it.
  • I have the Moby, Bjorn, and Ergo. All have pros and cons. I used the Moby around the house when DS was very new and little, but found it difficult to put on at the store- it would drag on the ground of the parking lot and I never really felt like he was secure. I never really learned how to put it on without looking at the pictures in the pamphlet.   The Bjorn was good when he had the head control to face out, but he outgrew it pretty quickly.  I used the Ergo with the infant insert when DS was little, and it was comfortable to wear and easy to put on when he was bigger.  We've used it a couple of times with DS riding on the back, but I don't know how you'd put it on yourself- you need a helper.
  • My kids are 2 years, 6 weeks apart, I have a single and a double Bob Revolution.  I've had the City Mini, Joovy Sit and Stand, cheap umbrella stollers, and some other Jeep jogger with a front wheel that didn't move... it was horrible!  The only think you need is a Bob Revolution.  When I would use the double it was a little tight, but I could get through any doorway or out door area, the only times I had trouble was walking around racks in a mall, but I made it work.  Now that the kids are 2 and 4, I only use the double for running.  For atleast the past year, probably more, I've only needed the single.  The little one would sit in the seat and DD can sit on what's supposed to be the footrest, but it's big enough to sit in and I've seen alot of parents do it lately.  Now that DS is older the 2 of them take turns who sits where.  Whether you get the single or the double it is the worlds best stroller.  It's the only stroller that actually goes over bumps and turns smoothly, and it's not nearly as big, bulky, or heavy as some people make is seem.
  • Agree with PP about the bob. We also have the single and the double. 100% worth it i love those strollers and have no complaints!
  • I may be a bit late to add, but we have a Britax B-Ready stroller. It works as a single stroller, or with one attachment, becomes a double. It is fabulous and turns on a dime. I have had it for 2 1/2 years and it has been used almost every day! Never have I had an issue. Best of luck in your stroller hunt! :)
