I worked Saturday so my wife took R to his first swim class. He was the youngest one there and the most active in the pool. He a LOVED the water and kept splashing the other kids/parents. We are constantly being reminded what an active/alert kid we have. @JGY‌, I think you said G was this way. I think R is following suit. He's crawling everywhere and is wanting to stand up. It's exhausting keeping an eye on him. I left him alone for 10 sec and I came back in with him holding the fireplace poker!!

Yup, look out!  G was walking at 9 months, and it's been a roller coaster for sure!  We did swim lessons at 6 months as well, and he loved it.  Now, a year later, we're going to opt for tumbling classes instead.  ;)

  • Oh, and speaking of active/alert kiddos, I feel that we may have one on our hands too. Though, he is a pretty mellow kid when we're out and about with him. On the other hand, he just discovered gravity and repeatedly dropped things to the floor when we ate lunch out yesterday.

  • My second pump of the day was pretty good - close to 4oz until I proceeded to spill more than half of it on the floor. Seriously want to cry right now.

  • @jrtmom - It's exciting that Henry is learning so much.  We've had some preference issues with Kaden, at times it will be me, and at other's EV.  In his case it seems like a little bit of possessiveness, and can come from a change in routine, or a particular fun event (like after he and EV went swimming on Vacation, no one was better then his "Aya"). But last night after a miserable toddler day he wanted "Mama" and only "Mama".  Good luck!!

@ATXMommas - I've been having a hard time pumping too (and I'm just getting started). I left yesterday from 1:50 - 6:10 and I left a 3oz bottle and 2 oz bottle and another 2 oz in the fridge.  The 5 oz I'd pumped over Saturday and then right before I left. Owen had nursed at 12:30pm. Anyway I guess it was not enough milk. EV couldn't find the milk in the freezer and said Owen was extremely hungry and fussy and drank the milk I left in 5 minutes :ß(  I'm not really sure how to build a freezer stash?  Should I add in a pumping session every day to try and bring up my supply?  Suggestions from anyone welcome! :-)
  • @Jazibel‌ - I wish I had suggestions on building a freezer stash. My supply has never been ample enough to store much, especially before I went back to work and was full time nursing. It took me multiple pumping sessions to store enough to get through one day at day care. I was only able to start pumping larger quantities when I was separated from him (vs pumping right after I nursed him). Once I returned to work, I was able to get a teeny tiny stash going because there were some weeks that I pumped 3-4oz more than he needed that week.

The only thing I might suggest is to pump one side while nursing on the other. Even if O nurses on both sides, he should still be able to get milk from the side you just pumped. At least for me, Ash seems happy with nursing even if I recently pumped, though if I tried to pump shortly after I nursed, I wouldn't be able to pump that much. The babies are so much more effective at getting milk out than the pump.

Also, I would think that 5oz is plenty of milk for the timeframe you were gone. Does E know about paced feeding? Kellymom has good resources on it. That might help.

  • 15 week old twin boys, 4 weeks adjusted age.

@ATXmommas‌- I spilled 2 oz yesterday and really beat myself up over it. I felt so clumsy and awful.

@jazibel- I built my freezer supply before the boys came home and now I just use it up but if I were ever to add to it again I would add at least two pumps a day, (for me it would mean) pumping about every 2 hours (I do every 3 now) or so during waking hours and every 4 at night. Also pumping after you breast feed helps with production. I wish I could do that. I have to hold the babies up right after every feed. Even if there's very little left to pump out after Owen feeds it's the concept that extra pumping today is "putting in an order" for more milk tomorrow. It also helps you get to the second let down like @jrtmom mentioned.

As for us, it's hot. So hot we don't leave the house during the day. In the evening we've been trying to go for walks around the marina with the boys in their carriers, which they prefer to the stroller. But it's even too hot for that tonight. The boys are doing well, staying awake for fairly long stretches and sleeping for long stretches- typically about 6 hours at night which is wonderful. The weekend was quiet, my mom came over and was extremely helpful and great with the boys. My dad and his wife are coming tomorrow, also huge helpers when they are here.

QOTD: orienting to toys and O is very smiley. B smiles when he feels like it, but his engagement with toys and eye contact and gaze following objects is very good.

    A & K, married 7/1/13.

After 10 months of ttc via medicated IUIs and two early losses, we finally got our boys- Perfect premie twins born 5/27/14.

  • Thanks I'm going to try and pump one side and also add a pumping session a few times a week to see if I can build a frozen supply, @2momsinCA I might try to add in one more session at night too. I'm always worried about running out of milk for when Owen needs to nurse again - I like your description that the pumping will lead to more milk tomorrow. @jrtmom - you said 80oz right? That wasn't a typo??  I'm really impressed. @ATXmommas, I thought 5oz would be plenty (part of me was even hoping there would be some left over...)  I'll check out kellymom for more insight for EV and me both.

@ball.and.chain‌ -- my baby almost only naps on us as well, although she will fall asleep for naps on our bed too if I'm there now. She wakes easy too. One thing that seems to help us is if I turn on the bathroom fan or some other white noise. It blocks out random house noises really well. She is almost getting too big to nap on me but I love it and it still works best if she is fussy and won't go to sleep.
Glad to hear we are not the only ones!  I love snuggling with him too but wish it didn't have to happen every time!  :)  We do usually use some kind of white noise -- we have a couple of machines, or the A/C or fans work -- and it does help, but not quite enough.  At daycare he is going to be napping with toddlers running around yelling, so he'll either acquire the ability to sleep through it or he'll be miserable every day!  I'm hoping for the former.

  • @Flygirl1228‌ cluster feeding. Starting around 7pm they go crazy for milk. O, in particular, becomes the Milk Monster where if he's not on the boob he is NOT happy. I sit on the couch breast feeding for a solid 3-5 hours straight. Sometimes it starts as early as 5pm or go as late as 2am. When it seems like they are even still hungry and maybe I'm tapped dry I give them bottles of expressed milk. After the mayhem they sleep very well. This was a routine that they started themselves. They've also started to have more of a couple hours of nap- couple hours (4-6 hour stretches) of awake schedule during the day.

During the day they typically take 3-4oz of expressed milk every 3-4 hours with breast feeding snacks whenever they want, and O always wants. When I've tried to EBF with O (B prefers his bottles) he gets hungry sooner- he just doesn't get as much milk as quickly with as little effort (expending calories) from my boob as he does from a bottle.

  • @herbabymama‌ - I have to pump for a full 20. Maybe that's why I hate pumping so much?

We started 3 meals a day about a week ago, but Ash is very interested in food. Have you tried finger foods and spoon feeding? My friend's daughter goes through spells of wanting purées and then wanting finger foods. Ash loves beans, tomatoes, veggie patties, hummus, and just about all fruit. We give him the sprouted whole grain bred that we eat and he gobbles that up too.

  • Yay, Simone and 2Mamaz! Amazing you have been able to double Simone's intake at the breast! The system you have going sounds great and most importantly, it seems like it is working well for your family. And, I agree with you - I gain so much by reading about each other's experiences. I'm glad if my honest account of my experiences - good and bad - can benefit others in any small way. You are doing great!

Oh, and about down there, I would say that I was healed in a decent amount of time, but I felt unpleasant pressure for months that became more pronounced when I ran or had to pee. Thankfully, it's all back to normal now, but it took some time for me.

  • LO....Elise and Olivia 1 month today (still not at due date so idk how to do adjusted age)

@jgy...I'd like to be added Elise and Olivia born 8/19/14 with wife M

I haven't been on boards lately due to sheer exhaustion with our girls. Breastfeeding and pumping takes up most of my day lol

They are starting to be much more aware which is adorable. Else is sticking out her tongue and making raspberry sounds and Olivia just grunts all the time lol

Pumping is difficult with two growing girls. We changed two bf out to supplementing with formula bc the girls are so hungry and I can't seem to keep up. I pump during those two times. This also helps me add to a stockpile for when I go back to work (that way my wife has breast milk to give girls)
