Question about humidifiers.

We all have a cold. Awesome. Anyhow, we had a humidifier in DDs room last winter and it broke a few months ago and never got around to replacing it. Now we are having some cool nights and with the furnace running, we do prefer to have a humidifier in her room. (Plus it will help with her having a cold) so to my question. Which is better cold or warm mist??

Re: Question about humidifiers.

  • I think they suggest cool mist for little ones. We have the Crane teardrop one and it works well, fairly easy to clean too! GL

  • I think cool mist works better for allergy congestion and warm helps with cold/flu congestion? I could be wrong, but they serve different purposes.

  • I used to be a "warm only" until DS needed one in his room because of RSV... If it's going into a kid's room, cold is the ONLY way to go for safety.  Now, I can't say I'd spend the extra money on a warm one because it was a PITA when that thing would get a mineral buildup (We've got a TON of iron in our water) it was impossible to get it separated from the element thus it'd quit working because it couldn't heat the water.  While both were virtually silent, our cool mist is going strong our heat mist needs to be replaced after less than one year of use, and the cool mist was only $20 (we got the cute little blue-light one) .. It's a six of one, half dozen of the other type item - go with the one you like more, but if it's going into a kid's room, I'd go cold...
