Crib bumper

Now that a lot of our LOs are starting to roll around, what kind of protection are you using in the crib? I like the tradition padded kind but people always talk about risk of SIDS. The mesh is breathable but will LO ends up with bruises?

I view bumpers as more of a protection from getting limbs stuck so a little bonk here and there doesn't bother me. We use breathable.

SS bc: I don't have anything right now. Tried traditional the first couple times her legs got stuck, but I was too afraid of SIDS to leave them on. I may put them back up when she's older and able to move around a lot better.

We never used any kind of bumpers with DD (still don't at 20 months), she burrows her head right up to the crib slats and is just fine.

We had the padded kind in our daughter, but pushd pretty far down between the mattress and the crib, it was honestly more to keep her from accidentally pushing her pacifiers out. I didn't get the matching bumper for my son's room, so we'll either buy a mesh one or go without.

We have the mesh bumper and without fail every morning LO wakes up with the imprint on her head from being pressed up against it. The imprint is much better than the screaming from her leg being stuck between the slats.

@nelleebelle‌ - mine is a stomach sleeper (yup, call dcs) and moves like crazy. She has started flipping from belly to back but just this past week... Of she were on her back like she's supposed to be, then she most likely wouldn't be moving around.

LO doesn't roll over, but he does rotate!

I will likely get a mesh one if/when the need presents itself.

I'm in the I'd rather have a kid with bruises than SIDS camp, so, when LO actually sleeps in his crib, I'll look into mesh if he needs something.

Nothing at the moment but I think we'll have to get something soon. These babies be crazies. I'll get the mesh if that's the case.

My LO rotates as well and attempting to roll over from front to back starting yesterday (no success yet). I don't think she will hit the side or get stuck in between the bars anytime soon but I want to start researching and see what works best.

SS. My LO is still on the PnP but she rotates so much I'm sure we are going to have to get the mesh ones once we move her into her crib to avoid her legs getting stuck between the slabs. She started rolling over this week so I guess she's gonna have imprints and bruises on her head every morning but I can live with that.

Charlie doesn't move much right now, so nothing. We probably won't get anything once he does move. C used to do acrobats in her crib and end up in crazy positions, but only twice did she get stuck. No bumpers for her either.

We have a mesh bumper, but I'm not putting it in his crib unless he needs it.  He's not rolling or moving yet.

I've heard it's the padded kind that pose a bigger SIDS risk than the mesh, so even though I'm not using a bumper, if I had to, I would go with a mesh one just to be safe.

I planned on using the padded kind, but my mom still hasn't gotten around to sewing any of the nursery bedding she offered to make. Since the girls love to rotate all over the place in their cribs, I bought mesh bumpers after they both started getting limbs stuck between the bars. If my mom ever finishes the others, I'll put them up. Maybe flame worthy, but I find a lot of the SIDS paranoia a little over the top.

Nothing. I don't buy the idea that mesh is breathable enough. Hugsy is up against the slats all the time and I would worry if there was anything there.

I think I Wrote this on here before, but my mom did extensive "research" on the breathable mesh bumper before she felt comfortable putting in my Neices crib (she provides daycare for her). This was achieved by wrapping the bumper tightly around her face and attempting to breath for about ten minutes or so. She said it was quite easy to breath, so she felt ok with it. Good enough for me.

Agreed. That's a big part of what makes me stabby about all the so called measures to prevent SIDS.

True, they are not the same, but I said it because it is one of the recommendations given to help prevent SIDS. In general the more knowledge people have about doing what they can to prevent an infant from accidental death is the key. (I know accidental death and SIDS are not the same either)

I picked SS. Our crib slats seems pretty wide and I've had no concern about him getting stuck in there (especially since he is so long and skinny), but he has recently been wiggling around and smashing his face up against the side. I may get a breathable one to prevent him from that, and from chewing on the slats (this morning he was licking them)

I'm also tired of having to move the crib to fish out pacifiers so a bumper might be introduced later for my laziness.

Haven't even thought about it! LO is still in his bassinet (just barely). But it will either be nothing or mesh.
