TTC after 35

A little advice for my DH

So my DH went for an SA on 9/4.  Results were called into him today.  The lady said he is "average"... it was probably just a receptionist or something, but she couldn't elaborate.  So DH asked if that meant he "could get me pregnant" and she giggled and said yes.  then said - the Dr left a note he'd like you to come back in for an appt.  DH asked why, and the lady didn't know.  So now, I think it's weird that the DR is asking him to come back in unless there is something to discuss.  DH has little info other than he's "average".  If it were me, I'd have asked 85 questions but you know boys, they just don't ask questions like we do!  Are we reading into the "come back in to see me" note?  What does "average" mean?  Should I ask that they mail the results so we can look at numbers or  percentages or whatever?

Desperately seeking advice!

Re: A little advice for my DH

  • Call the office back and get a copy of the results and have him make the follow up apt. You won't know what it is about until he sees the doctor.

  • I find it odd the caller giggled.  Seems like a legitimate question to me. I agree to try to get the results and definitely follow up with the appointment. With my DH's SA the results were sent to my doctor's office too and I was able to get better info from my doctor- especially since DH had not signed that I was able to receive his medical info at the SA office (which bugged me). good luck!
  • I may not have mentioned, but that was the DR's office that called him.  the fertility center sent the results to the DR 2 days ago and they finally connected with DH to give him the "average" result.  The Drs were all out to lunch so it was maybe a nurse or something who called him.  We'll see what happens when he calls back (after their lunch).

  • This sounds so frustrating--I hate it when people leave you in suspense like that.  You sound pretty calm about it, though.  I hope they are able to set both of your minds at ease when your DH calls this afternoon.

  • I'd be cautious even if you get the results, they're often done to different standards and protocols at different labs so trying to make sense of the numbers on your own can be frustrating and even unnecessarily alarming. Best to let the doctor fill you in on what it all means.
